My night: cops and crazy people

My cell phone started ringing when I was about 2 minutes away from the hotel. (my night job, for those who don't know...night manager/audit) It was J, the girl who works the shift before me.
"Hey, what's up?"
"How far away are you?"
Puzzled because I wasn't late or anything, "umm, about two minutes, why?"
"I have a bit of a problem here, do you think you could hurry?"

So I sped the rest of the way and ran inside. Here is what was going on. About 45 minutes before, she had gotten a complaint from a guest say that the people in 309 were playing music really, really loud. (keep in mind, this was around 10:30pm) So she called up to the room to ask them to turn it down. The gentleman in the room got belligerent with her and argued, telling her it was his room and he could "play the god-damned, fucking music as loud as I fucking feel like it". She finally convinced him to turn it down, but when he did, she could hear someone crying in the background. A few minutes later, the people in the next-door room called down saying that they could hear someone screaming and crying in 309, saying "no, no, no, no". So J sends A (night housekeeper) up to see if she can hear it. A could hear someone crying inside and what sounded like someone being thrown against the wall. That's when I got there.

I called T, our manager, and he phoned the guest in 309, who informed him that the girl who was crying was bi-polar and was having a fit, throwing herself against walls and crying. They asked for a wheelchair so that they could take her outside to calm down. So A and I took the wheelchair up. We knocked on the door and heard someone scramble and run towards it. The door opened and a young woman with wet hair ran out and grabbed me in a very tight hug, crying in my ear, "you'll help me, you love me, I know it, help me". She wouldn't let go and was literally holding me so tight that I could hardly breathe. The man came out and dragged her off me and back into the room, grabbed the wheelchair and told us to leave because we had already ruined his night.

We went back down, called T (who by this point was getting dressed and ready to come down). While J was on the phone with him, I got two more noise complaints from other guests about that room. We called 309 and told them that they had exactly 15 minutes to leave the property or we would call the police. Didn't tell them that the cops were already on their way. A few minutes later, a woman came down, pushing the girl who had hugged me in the wheelchair. She was soaking wet and had a very nasty looking bruise forming on her arm. The girl could hardly hold her head up...the other woman kept having to grab her to keep her from falling onto the floor. Very strange seeing as how she had been holding me in a death-grip just a few minutes ago...and now she can't hold her own head up?? They go out to the parking lot and the man comes down to pay the bill. He asks for our managers name and all three of ours, telling us that he is a lawyer and he knows his rights and he won't stand for being treated like this and generally being very rude. I wrote all of our names down and gave it to him, to which he replied, "are these your real names or are you fucking lying to me?"
I told him that yes, those were our names.

Here is where it got interesting.

He reached across the desk, grabbed the front of my sweater, pulled me forward (to the point where my feet were off the floor) and said "they damn well better be your real names. If I find out that you are lying to me, I will come after you...legally and physically. Do you understand me?"

To make a long story short, he paid his bill, hurled a few more insults and walked out the door. T pulled up just as they were all getting into their car, with the police showing up just a minute after him. The people were just puling out and we pointed the cops after them. They got the guy to stop in the gas station across the street. They sat over there and talked to them for about an hour. Every time we walked outside, we could hear the man arguing with the cops and the girl yelling. Finally, the police put them all into the back of the cop cars and took them off, a tow truck showed up for their car.

The cop came back a while later to get statements from all of us...he just left. But no one will tell us anything about what was going on.

Ahh, the joys of the night shift. It's not just a job, some nights it is one hell of an adventure.

Oh sweetie. That scares me so much. It just...wow. I am glad for your safety that you are safe, but wow.

I honestly cannot comprehend the human race sometimes.

Niether can I. Strange people like that is something that I have to deal with on a somewhat regular basis, but it has been a while since any of them actually threatened me physically. Shook me up a little bit more then I would have liked.

OK OK, maybe without the actual and threats of physical violence.

I'd gie you a long drawn out story of some of the things I saw when I managed a convenience store in downtown Phoenix and had to cover the graveyard shifts, but this is your blog and I'd rather watc.. I mean read you.

You should have laid an assault charge with the police.

Ask for a dickpuncher to be installed.

It's like a fist on a spring. You press a button and it shoots out of the desk hitting them in the nuts.

I think I'll patent that first.

sheee yut my first thought was bulging boy's first line; you could have, seriously, that is assault...in fact, you still can...either get his name off the hotel bill or go to the magistrate and explain the situation...you might get some info thataway too

pretty freaky, too strange, I'm glad they got locked up and hopefully the police will sort it; I really kind of hope they took the girl to a local hospital to get her checked out; if she was unresponsive I don't think another adult's objections would overrule if she was in the custody of the police and it's a whole lot harder to tell medical lies to the ER team, they can call pharmacies and verify prescriptions too

especially weird cause I've never seen or heard of ANY doc writing a prescription for an injectable that would work that fast (an antipsychotic like Haldol? I do know of a drug that works instantly, a muscle relaxer; we use it to intubate people that have been in traumas and are fighting us...they stay conscious but they can't move; may be the same one used for surgeries) to be used by a lay person on someone else and that's what it sounds like; why didn't they drug her sooner instead of cranking up the music? Why were they traveling?

if you're REALLY curious court records are public knowledge (assuming they find something serious enough to charge him with that he can't just pay a fine like disturbing the peace, resisting arrest...if it was all legit, why put up such a fuss? If she was his wife or daughter, why not say so? if not, what the heck was she doing with him?) I think anyone can check court records, not just the press but I could be wrong...you know what??? call your local newspaper office anonymously and sic them on it, lol, heck, better yet, call the LA Times...now I'm curious too!

hey hey sounds like the making of a good suspense story what we don't know we can make up (it must have been the Mafia ooohhh I bet that's why they aren't telling you anything; oooohhh I need to shut up now)

My first thought after you mentioned crying and banging was abuse. The guy was using the music to cover it up. Yeah, too much law and order and CSI. But it sounds like that might have been the case.
So how scared were you to be physically grabbed by an angry man?
Thank goodness you are alright.
And you may have saved that woman from all kinds of problems.
Your good deed for the day.

Well Im glad you're ok...Something tells me that guy is one of THOSE types...in which case...I would love to show him what PAIN really is...I hate people like him...If I were you I would make a report about it just in case he does come after legally or physically...just to keep you bases covered...The police are more opt to act is there is a history already forming...Speaking from personal exsperience

I agree with bulging boy, charge the guy with assault. There was never any reason for him to touch you. If you hear any more about this, please let us know. Thanks.

I think you should charge the man with assault. Your employer(s) should back you up, of course, should there be any legal costs (you were on the job, after all, and you have witnesses, yes?)

It sounds to me like a situation where the other women will end up being to scared to charge the guy with anything so your assault charge will be the only thing that sticks. You might do all three of them some good.

Holy shit. You KNOW I was relating to it from a hotel perspective.

I think I would have given first names only - as a Hotel Exec, I'd NEVER expect my staff to give full names. But you know what? Every single one of you handled it exactly the way that situation should have been handled.

I am so glad the cops got there when they did.

It's hard to say what was going on but I sure wish I knew. It sounds abusive due to the man's behavior. Otherwise I'd question the girl's sanity. Once a friend of mine was picking up his autistic + teenaged son from a hospital in another state and he (son) got physically confrontational, it got loud, etc and my friend ended up being tossed in jail, which was awful cause it left his son unsupervised in the manner in which he needed it. Glad your cops knew enough to carefully assess the situation. My friend's cops didn't.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

curious,

As you know, I'm familiar with the hotel business...just a little*winks*

I would have had the cops up there by the second incident...there is no way in hell I would have allowed any of my female clerks to go up to a room by themselves (I get away with it because of my charming personality, my winning smile, and the Glock 9mm pistol strapped to my back).

As soon as he laid his hands on you, that is assault & battery...and if the hotel doesn't press charges, then you should.

Just my viewpoint....

Good god curious, why do you have to leave us in wondering mode..
You was very brave and did the right thing, god only knows
what would have happen. Well for that matter what was happening..
People are strange these days and it puts us in a instant protective stance. Sometimes its for nothing, but thats alright, at least
we can protect ourselves and those around us being like that..

Im with Corezon. Finding information on this guy can be quite easy. Just knowing his name is the first part and yes corezon is right, a trip to the local county court house can reveal alot about a person. You should file those charges with the local police, for him grabing you. That is not right at all! It was assult! And it needs to be taken care of right away! Email me his name. If he is a an attorney. I can find out even more!

I don’t think that pressing charges will do any thing just sounds like revenge to me don’t be scared of people like that there just big babies throwing fits but it would be good to keep him away he could start to mess with you if he thinks he would get away with it if he grabs you again take an eye out or not Jesus would turn the other cheek right.i had a stalker once it was my exs huge uncle it was the biggest guy in town at least three times my size but he didn’t scare me he was just acting tuff and I realized he was nothing more than a big baby but he did try to run me over and kill me a couple of times ok I did get scared but I kept my cool I new I was wharing "I cant spell it right"the armor of god and wasn’t afraid to go to heaven.see were I lived pot ran every thing so if you were known for being a cop caller you really got it from the whole town and for some reason I really liked that town and didn’t want to be ran out or leave with my tail between my legs so I stuck it out and after months of harassment he tried to strangle me and wile I was hanging there with his hands around my neck I thought of many ways to hurt him.it would have been easy both his hands were occupied kick him in the nuts break a knee break his fingers to get his hands of my neck poke his eyes out punch him in the throught or rip his adams apple out just because he was big didn’t mean he didn’t have the same basic weaknesses that every one has and after I realized this I wasn’t scared anymore and it seemed pointless it’s a powerful feeling to over come fear to accept death and know that your soul would just live on to have no fear I’ve been addicted to breaking my fears apart ever since it was enlightenment there is nothing to fear but fear its self anyways im just saying don’t be afraid of these guys but don’t let them harass you ether its to much hassle work and annoyance but at the same time I had a vary spiritual thing happen to that I would not trade for anything.thanks for inspiring me and letting me relive that I’ve forgotten about it and haven’t thought about it in a long time.o yeah and incase you were thinking I didn’t do anything to his niece to deserve that kind of treatment she was one of the first girls I loved and treated her vary nice I think when we broke up she instigated a lot of it

I worked night clerk at a hotel in arizona, the only employee on propert after 8 pm. Did that for two years... i got lucky I only had three problems.
1. has a young couple make a meth lab in the bathroom of the weekly room the girls mother rented for them.
2. Had someone steel a servalence camera we had on one of the side doors.
3. had two girls hooking out of one room durring bike week (we didnt bother them they didnt make any trouble and didnt bring guys in at night).

But you were right to call the cops. also you should have a camera on the front desk, then you could have given the cops a copy from when the guy grabbed you.

An update for you all:

Thank you for the support and well-wishes. Yes, we have filed assult charges and have no doubt that they will stick. There were two witnesses standing there when he did it, plus a huge straight-line bruise across my stomach from hitting the edge of the desk. Between the three of us giving our account, the pictures of the bruise and the events of the night...I think it is pretty much a done deal. I work for an awesome company though and they are doing all they can to ensure that I don't have to deal with the hassle of a trial.
