Just wondering...

I have shared some of my writing here...fiction stories, my memories and poems. I did a post a while back that was an excerpt of a story that has been circling around in my head for a few years. A couple of summers ago, I actually sat down and wrote it. I had sent the first few chapters to my dad's editor and, while her company doesn't publish fiction, she was encouraging me to go for it and was going to point me towards some of her publisher friends.

Anyway, wrote up the whole story, was only a chapter or so away from being done. It was pushing 600 pages and I was actually really proud of it. I put the finishing touches on it......just in time for the computer to crash.

And I mean, crash...dead...kaput...no more computer.
Seriously, there was smoke involved.
Needless to say...the story was gone and I was royally pissed.

But in the last few months (largely due to this place) I have given serious thought to re-writing it. Dash, [blog saintlianna], Goddess, Seriously and Caress have been adding their words of encouragement.
*blows kisses of gratitude to each of them*

Still not sure if I'm going to re-write the fiction novel or go with a Blog-like compilation of thoughts and experiences. Here is what I was wondering though.
*gets all shy and starts blushing*
Would you guys like to read some of what is written already?
I would appreciate the feedback, but I won't post it here if there is no interest.

Sure! Let us see what you have written.
BTW do you still have the crashed computer? If you want that 600 pages back you can go to a disaster recovery place. They will probably be able to get it.
Good luck.

I agree with the other gentleman about trying to save the data from your old computer. Writing can be very challenging and losing one's work is devastating. Don't let this set you back. You may be able to rescue the lost material.

I'd be very interested to read anything you'd care to share.

Yes, I think we would.

I'm not the most computer savvy person in the world but I know there is a fairly inexpensive device that holds a fair amount of information--more than a floppy or CD you can get that just plugs into the back of your computer; I don't have anything on my pc that warrants being anal about backing up but there have been things I wish I had saved off the hard drive so if I were writing something offline I really didn't want to lose I would definitely make a habit of backing it onto some sort of external device..

Interestingly enough I saw an article the other day about a college chick that got into trouble for plagiarizing in a novel she wrote...the most interesting thing to me was that a company exists that asks you some person questions; throws you out some basic story line, and hires you to write a book accordingly. They then take care of the marketing (and they have major connections) and you both get a percentage. Worth looking into as a breakthrough medium to get your name out there and good practice. Don't remember the name of the company, though.

i would absolutely love to read what you've written. count me in! You have a wonderful way with expressing emotions so please, share.

By the way, if you still have the hard drive, I bet there is a good chance some of it can be salvaged. If you want to try, let me know. My firm has a lab that does that kind of work.

Ok, now you guys have got me blushing. You seem to like doing that.

Sometime in the next few days, I'll put up an excerpt of it for you and we'll see.

To those of you who were asking about the computer, no, we don't have it anymore. A couple of you have said that you could have recovered the data, even though the computer was an exploded, melted wreck. And I mean that literally...exploded. But the thought that perhaps they could have gotten the data off of it and told me no....well, yeah, it's got me a little upset. A certain computer tech guy is in trouble if I ever run into him again.

Oh, and I remember hearing that whenever J.R.R. Tolkien got stuck while writing 'Lord of the Rings' he would go back and start rewriting it from the very beginning...

So maybe having to rewrite 600 pages is a good omen!
