Joys of country life

See what my mood is? Yep, sleepy. Know why?
Because of those two little cuties over there.
The little brown and white baby goat is Peanut and the lamb in the back is Mary. Both of them are about 3 months old and are just as sweet as can be.

Go in and sit down in the pen and Peanut is instantly curled up in your lap. They are adorable.

Until yesterday.

You see, they are old enough to be weaned (not allowed to nurse off Mama anymore) and so we have them in a separate pen from their mothers. Of course, neither they or their moms like this new arrangement and all four of them are making their displeasure known.

Two sheep and two goats can make a considerable amount of noise crying back and forth to each other. And poor yours truly was trying to sleep yesterday. Had to turn the fan on High to cover the sounds enough so that I could sleep and then I ended up having weird dreams about animals.

Ahh, the joys of being a country girl. *yawn*

Have to agree on the loud part. And the fact it seems they don't give up for hours.. grrr

Go get some sleep

I bet Bulge could make the sheep happy....

When I was about 5, my mom decided that we'd get a goat because the milk would be healthier. Poor Gertrude. She lasted about a year and we gave her to someone that could deal with her. Mom wasn't as much of a farmer as she thought.

Yeah, they are a bit more work then most people realize and milking is a pain in the ass. But the milk is healthier.

Being a born and raised city boy, I have no particular yearning for country life. I sleep comfortably through the occasional noise of cars or motorcycles.
But this is too tempting... Won't you please share your dreams with animals?...

or at least just whisper them in my ear?...

curious082385 replies on 5/3/2006 9:44 am:
Haha...I was wondering who would be the first to give in to that temptation and ask what those dreams were. In all honesty, they were just wierd. You know, when you're asleep, how your brain will find ways to work the surrounding sounds into your dreams? Sort of like that.

sounds like a joy...really...though hope they calm down soon. We're dealing with a rash of coyotes stealing small dogs and cats from the neighborhood, and then today it seems lots of rattlesnakes were spotted throught the hood.

Yes, when they are quiet, they are the sweetest thing. I'm trying (and failing miserably) to not get attached to Peanut.

Oh they are cute. Just wondering, do you find that they don't eventually wean themselves?

And hey, you don't get home 'till after 5am, so what the hell. lol

curious082385 replies on 5/3/2006 9:47 am:
Weekends, my dear, weekends.

Yes, their moms will eventually start weaning them on their own...already sort of starting, but they do it really slowly. It's faster to do it this way. Plus, while they are nursing, they won't go into season and we want to breed them both again for babies this summer.

Dear Clarice... you will tell me when the lambs stop screaming.

Sorry. I flashed back to a previous life.

Cute picture (both you and the goats).

I was wondering when the Clarice reference would come up.

How's that song go? Oh yeah, Thank god I'm a country girl! I mean if you weren't, how could we be blog twins?!

Pssttt..I don't really consider myself country, I just live out in the middle of nowhere!

curious082385 replies on 5/4/2006 5:38 am:
Well, living out in the middle of nowhere is the first step.
Although I guess, since you are my twin, you sort of have honorary country girl status.
