Summertime....and the livin' is easy.....

Summertime in the city by the interesting time to work there, to say the least! This is the time of year when tourists come out of the woodworks! Sometimes it is comical, but most of the time it is just fucking annoying.

So...I have some "hints" for tourists visiting San Francisco this summer.

* Do not stop abruptly on the sidewalk to take a picture of some random thing. If I am in a hurry to catch a train, I might "accidently" trip you.

* If you are eating at a restaurant in Chinatown, please keep in mind that it is not Panda Express in CousinFuck, W.VA. If you have to ask what something probably don't want to eat it.

* And in reference to the above...the little Asian woman taking your order does not want to chit chat...don't do it. (Seriously...if you fuck with her routine, she will probably spit in your food. And, welcome to Chinatown...I'm dead serious.)

* I don't mind being asked for directions or how to get somewhere. But if you ask me what bus to take to get to the wharf and I tell you "take the 30 or the 41 and change to the 30 at Washington Square", do NOT ask me if I am "sure about that". I am happy to oblige the first time...the second set of directions will get you to the Rainbow Room in the Castro.

* The financial district is actually a place where people work. It's not like Wall Street and I don't understand why tourist even wander around. Please stay out of the financial district...especially during rush hours and lunch hours.

* Speaking of the financial district, why, why, why do you insist on taking pictures of the Bank of America building. Yes, it was featured in the movie "Towering Inferno". Why don't you go start a fire in the lobby...that would make a much better story to tell your friends when you get home.

* If you ride public transportation of any kind...please have some idea what you are doing. BART is a commuter train...not a ride at DisneyLand.

* Tip the cab drivers...they are bitter and evil enough as it is.

* Yes, it is 50 degrees and the wind is blowing...I don't feel sorry for you in your shorts and tank top. Every guidebook on the shelf will tell you that the weather in San Francisco during the summer is not actually "summerlike".

In summation...please enjoy your trip to San Francisco...but get the hell out of my way, OK?

Sounds like you should vacation here in South Florida in the winter, where the snowbirds come down at the beginning of the season with a clean shirt and a twenty dollar bill. They go home in the spring without having changed either!

BTW, I loved the Irish coffee in SF, but don't for a minute believe it was invented there. And I have fond memories of the guy in the gorilla suit playing the trumpet down by Ghirardelli Square. The wharf reminds me of Mallory Square in Key West at sunset.
