Everything that could break did, Wednesday

This week needs to find an ending soon.

I came in to work at my regular time, got my coffee and did my usual morning rounds. Nothing new or anything in need of immediate care.

About 8:30 I was told that the crane from the day before could be taken down for repairs. Normally these are done on Friday after everyone leaves. That was ok since nothing else needed my attention.

I disassembled the part that was causing troubles only to find the reason to be they never fit in the first place. The initial assessment was wrong. The rigging that was originally done to make it work had finally failed.

Okay, plan B, hmmm plan B. We cannot put it back together, hmmm. If the correct part exists it would take at least a week to get, that's not good. Hmmmm Plan B is .. ummm .. have the parts custom built at a local machine shop for lots and lots of money, yea that will have to be plan B.

I know I'm gonna hear how much this cost for the next several quarters. It had to be done as a rush job which adds even more money to the picture. With no other options, we left the parts with them to use in the making of the new ones.

Well, I thought I was gonna have some down time there for a few minutes, but no, it was not to be. Another crane decides to take a dump. This one turned out to be easy enough, just a burnt motor. Amazingly we have the motor on hand, just gotta remove it from a spare crane that's on the ground. Nothing really difficult, but it took right up to the time the replacement parts were ready for pickup.

The new parts were nice and shinny. It's too bad that they take so long to put in. I had to work late just to get the job half done and make the crane usable again.

Oh well, I had no special plans for the evening anyway.
