the post that isn't posted

i was feeling uncomfortable about a situation, and so i decided to write a post about it. if i say so myself, it was a well-written post, the issues i raised made sense - at least to me - and at the end, i asked for comments and advice. once it was posted, i read it again and decided that the writing, not the posting, was what i needed to sort things out. so, i deleted the post and feel much better about the situation.

have you ever written a letter, but never mailed it; drafted an email, but never hit "send;" dialed a phone number but hung up before it started ringing? did just the action itself help you, even without making the actual connection? it has helped me in several situations over the past few years - if you haven't tried it yet, you should!

I do it all the time. On my blog, I deleted a couple of posts that were cut and paste articles. They were interesting but, nobody left any comments and they were not my written by me. I didn't plagiarize anybody by taking credit. It was clear from the format that I didn't write the piece but, someone might think I did. Another one I just got sick of looking at.

Oh yes. I've done it a lot -- emails, letters, phone calls, threads in the group, entries in the blog . . . .

mostly not phone calls if I get as far as dialing the number 999 times out of 1000 I'm going through with it. But just the act of writing something down helps. It gets it out of my system "off my chest" so to speak.

The idea that I actually intended to post the thread or send the letter makes for honesty in the writing. It's not "academic" if you know what I mean. I was going to give someone an earful of something, whatever it was. I know exactly whereof you speak.

Hello Cat,
Yes I have. It does the heart and mind good. It is a sort of closure. Hope your week will be good!
