Fate...

This past weekend I went and saw the movie, Just My Luck. While the movie was definitely a rental, it did bring up a topic I have discussed with several people. The topic of luck, fate and destiny.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Granted, there are lucky people out there; the lottery winners, etc. but for the most part, it is all a matter of fate.

Fate and destiny are intricately meshed. Fate is the things that happen. Destiny is the final path you have chosen from the pieces of fate.

They say everyone has a pre-destined life plan. Something we are supposed to be or do before we leave this life. Something we must embrace in order for it to happen.

Everyone we meet can show us something. Everyone we meet can teach us. Good or bad. It is what you take from it that makes the difference. If you get your heart broken, it might be about learning your own strength. If a loved one dies, perhaps, it's so you can realize how fragile life is. There are ton of lessons in life, all woven into one large path. The path of your fate and destiny.

Destiny and fate are hard to believe in, especially when your life is falling fast. I do not believe that anyone has the pre-destined life plan of misery. I believe it is the path we take and the chance of lessons we ignore that help us along this path.

On this site, we share the highs as well as the lows in our lives. I wanted to write this to encourage those that are low to keep trying, keep fighting. Fate will pull you out as well as destiny; that is, if you let it.

So do you believe in...fate?destiny?luck?

No, I don't. "Everyone we meet can show us something. Everyone we meet can teach us. Good or bad. It is what you take from it that makes the difference." This I agree with.

I believe that our choices determine where we go, and we can choose to go in a different direction at any time. I believe that fate and destiny are inextricably intertwined with faith. Religion wants us to believe that our reward will come in heaven, and to accept whatever shitty hand we're dealt here on earth.

"Destiny and fate are hard to believe in, especially when your life is falling fast. I do not believe that anyone has the pre-destined life plan of misery. I believe it is the path we take and the chance of lessons we ignore that help us along this path."

I think we're saying the same thing.

I believe that everything happens for a reason. People, events, experiences...all of these are brought into our life for some reason...but it is our choice what to do with them.
Someone once used the image of a crossroads. New people and experiences are like coming to a crossroads. Fate/Destiny places those crossroads in your path, but you choose which direction to take.
Life is just a series of choices, I think. To say that our paths and our choices are pre-destined is just a way to get out of being held accountable for our decisions.

To the one who gave me that image, I hope you don't mind me using it here.

yes it is our choice but we would not have a choice if fate or destiny did not play its role.

though we may chose...the path is already made for whatever choice we do make. so even though we have choices, we only chose which path, not what is already there.

We are saying the same thing Kel. I thought about touching on the religious beliefs within these but didn't want to open that can of worms here. Blogland's a funny place when it wants to be...

Z, I love the image of the crossroads but I still believe in the pre-destined life plan on some level. I think everyone has a path, not to say they won't stray from it, but it is there as a guide. Ultimately, I think the person is in control and if anyone is truly following their destiny, there will have no excuses.
