Goldiggers and niggaz

Hopefully, I'll get a response here from across the Atlantic. I bought the Kanye West CD yesterday. I liked his criticism of Bush after Katrina "George Bush doesn't care about black people". I liked his attack on the exploitative diamond trade in Sierra Leone, and I loved the beat of Goldigger, the old blues song as the back track, and thought the lyrics were hilarious. My problem is I thought anything other than 'black'has been taboo since James Brown and the assassination of Martin Luther King (I've visited the Museum of Civil Rights in Memphis, part of which is the Lorraine Motel where he was shot, and I stood and said a prayer). The problem for a white Scotsman is can I sing these lyrics: "I ain't sayin' she's a gold digger, but she aint messin with no broke niggaz" and not be called something I'm not?

As long as you sing them to yourself I dont think you will have a problem with anyone. Even Kanye West made a "clean" version of the song the one that's played on the radio. AND IT SAYS "Now I ain't saying she's a gold digger, but she ain't messing with no broke, broke". With these lyrics you wont be called anything at all.

This is coming from a black woman.

I am the real deal! "Come Get Me!!!"

Still pretty much taboo then. I imagine its a bit like jokes about Scotsmen being mean, we can laugh at them, but whoever tells them has to be careful. Didn't know there was a 'clean' version, thanks.

Hey Bob...
Is this a quick surreptious little sly dig at our US buddies under the guise of liberal concern to do the PC thing?!....

If you are black, you can call your fellow blacks the n word. If you are white, it's a nono. I can't understand this concept. If it is a socially degrading term, then shouldn't it be universally so? Wouldn't be great if race really didn't matter...not in this lifetime, or this country. xx rose
