Chatting Online

Yes, it can be fun to type to someone from your computer to theirs. It can even be romantic, flirting with the keyboard, and sending each other cute little smilies or kisses or whatever. It can even be sexually stimulating to learn one-handed typing while lusting at one another in cyberspace.

As great as it is, chatting online has it's obvious limitations. I am of the opinion that you don't get to know someone very well by chatting online.

It's a good tool to get some basic information about them and maybe a picture to see if you would be interested in taking the next step. However, I think it's mostly a waste of time.

Like most people, I am on a computer 8 hours a day at work. The people I work with are scattered across the country and our primary tool for communication is email. Once in a while, I pick up the phone just so I can hear their voice and get a little more of their personality. Even at work the coldness and limitations of online communication bugs me at times.

I'm interested in meeting someone, a real live person. I don't want to spend hours upon hours chatting with them, only to meet and discover the person was not who she presented herself to be. How many times have you met someone who must have sent you a picture that was ten years old?

No, I figure I'm a pretty good catch and I don't need to chat endlessly online. If you want to meet me, then let's get together, have a cup of coffee or even dinner.. Hell, I'll buy.

There I feel better.
