To Lube or Not to Lube?

To Lube or Not to Lube? That is the question.

Actually, lube is the answer. No one should be without a bottle (or three) around the house.

It's not an issue of arousal. Wetness for women varies with time of the month. And, if you're spending enough stimulating her down there (see Gspot What Where), she may need more lubrication than nature provides.

So, the question is...what kind to use?

I recommend the really fucking expensive silicone lubes, like Pjur's Eros, that create no funk and which don't require as much reapplying as they don't get absorbed into the body. I've also used water-based Probe with good success. And, it tastes...not bad.

When I'm in a relationship where we've agreed to forego condoms, I use any cold-pressed oil because oil has never caused any kind of female trouble for me. I love coconut oil!

So, what lube do you do? Why?
Lube? I don't need no stinkin' lube.
I rely on natural lube and saliva.
I picked up K-Y at the drug store just in case.
I've got a water-based lube, like Probe, on hand.
I've got a silicone-based lube, like Eros, on hand.
I've got an oil on hand.
I have a variety of lubes on hand and use them liberally.

Eros is the STUFF!!! KY i am allergic too,, and well,, Astroglide is well, definetly not tasteless,, and leaves a sticky residue...

Plus if we are talking about,, fisting (grins evily)... eros makes it so much sweeter...

*blows kisses..

Now won't last forever, so use it wisely~c

i use oil - i don't like the lube taste

and since i'm a squirter - wetness is really not the issue

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

bipolybabe replies on 6/25/2006 9:32 pm:
Yep, I prefer oil, too.

But one has to be in a "relationship" with trust, etc., to be able to forego non-oil-based lubes.

Wicked and a squirter, huh?

How lucky are you?!?

Coconut oil is wonderful, if only because of the delicious scent, but I've found that most women are usually able to produce adequate lube with proper timulation

'Fraid I've gotta differ, Sailor. As Runz says below, it's mostly about hormones and the time of the month.

For me, what I've found is that by having lubes on hand, it becomes less necessary because there's no shame in squeezing as needed.

Sex should never get uncomfortable. And, the problem is, women get anxious if they're not wet which makes the whole thing worse. They'll grit their teeth and go through it and then not come back for more because they feel they failed. That sucks for everybody.

So, if lubes are always an option, they may not be needed.

In my humble opinion,

I'm starting to experiment with them a bit. I've tried Astroglide, but it is a bit sticky. I picked up a sampler of the Eros, but haven't used it yet.

It also depends on the partner and what you're doing. One of mine seemed to have little natural lubrication, so saliva and Astroglide were a big help. A current playmate has a really juicy peach, but we're just starting to explore. More play, er, research, is definitely needed.

See the comments above about anxiety/time of the month.

Each of those things has an impact.

And, then there are those juicy peaches.

Enjoy,

If you are shy about getting some of the kinkier types:

The estroven brand ( you can get it in the grocery store.. is very slickery, not sticky, tastes nice. I love it. BUT...be forewarned...it is VERY slippery...and heat only magnifies the effect...

One other caveat: it does contain soy ( natural estrogens) attributes and might not be good for people that are prone to cancers.

Hmmm...new one for me to try.

Thanks!

to comment on NE sailor's remarks: I've found that most women are usually able to produce adequate lube with proper timulation

SOmetimes women's bodies..while properly stimulated and excited...do NOT poduce the required lubrication naturally...its justa girl thing.

Yep, we're in agreement.

Eros #1 with this gal. Astro in a pinch. Coconut and sesame oil rate high with me. Lube was never an issue with me until I had a hysterectomy 9 mos ago. I think my body is still trying to figure out what the hell to do....

Hey, Frassy,

See info on Will I Still Want Sex after The Change.

If you're not already on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, let's talk.

I am one juicy 40-something. And, you should be, too!

You have got to be kidding me, right? Little to do with desire and stimulation, and alot to do with hormones. I like oils as well. Thanks bpb for posting this. Hugs

My cock is sensitive to both water based lube and the chafing of latex, so I use silicone, including a very light coating under condoms (light enough that the condom doesn't slide off, and yes I've tried the non-latex condoms. They feel terrible to me). For anal play, a combo of silicone and (lots of!) water-based is best.

Silicone doesn't rinse off, so it's great with women who ejaculate copiously.

My advice: experiment, and experiment with using more than you think you could possibly need.

Whoa!!
Yep, I agree with BPP & Delicious & have plenty of lubes on hand & enjoy experimenting with them, just don't get enough chance to do so
And yes, I do realize that it varies with the woman & the timing, and dry is every bit as uncomfortable for the man as for the woman, so I do love to use them when appropriate, but when it's not needed, or if it's a new one that's not satisfactory, it can be a distraction to stop and find the stuff & apply.
On the other hand that can be a fun interlude, all depends on the situation.
