SUNSET

Final day of my Birth Month.

Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown
For the world was intent on dragging me down.
And if that weren't enough to ruin my day
A young boy out of breath approached me, all tired from play.

He stood right before with his head tilted down.
And with great excitement, "Look what I found".
In his hand was a rose, what a pitiful sight.
With its petals all worn - too much rain or not enough sunlight.

Wanting him to take his dead rose and go off to play.
I faked a small smile, and then shifted away.
But instead of retreating he sat down by my side
And placed the rose to his nose and declared in surprise.

"It sure smells pretty, and its beautiful too. That's why I picked it. Here, its for you"

The weed before me was dying or dead
Not vibrant of colors, not yellow or red.
But I knew I must take it or he might never leave.
So I reached for the rose and replied "Just what I need."

But instead of him placing the rose in my hand.
He held it mid-air without reason or plan.
It was then that I noticed for the very first time
The weed toting boy could not see..he was blind.

I heard my voice quiver, tears shone like the son.
As I thanked him for picking me the very best one.
"Your welcome" he smiled and ran off to play
Unaware of the impact he'd had on my day.

I sat there and wondered just how he could see.
A self-pitying woman sitting under that tree.
How well did he know of my self indulged plight.
Perhaps from his heart he'd been blessed with true sight.

Through the eyes of a blind child at last I could see
The problem was not with the world - it was me.
And for all those times I myself had been blind
I vowed to see beauty in life and appreciate every second that was mine.

And then I held that wilted flower up to my nose
And breathed in the fragrance of one perfect rose.
And smiled as I watched that young boy, another weed in his hand
About to change the life of an unsuspecting man.

My growth has been great. And its not over yet. But I hope those who care can see how far I've come. My love and my thanks....you know who you are.

Angel

That was truly a beautiful and touching piece!! THANK YOU!!!

It does indeed sometimes take just such an experience to open our eyes to the possibilities all aorund us!

We sometimes can't see the beauty in the world beyond all the darkness.... we too are blinded to the possibilities.. the simple beauties in life!!!

We "expect" beauty to come in a certain form or shape or color or smell or package... and yet there can be beauty all around us.........

I too have experienced much growth as you now know.... and I look forward to much much much more growth to come... and with any luck wisdom...... I hope to share at least a piece of it with you?

Fantasylover...what a beautiful comment. And I think sometimes life makes us so busy and burdened that we just don't stop and take in the beauty around us.

Angel,

Beauty certainly can be found in things we so easily overlook and often in plain view, we are the blind ones. Very moving indeed.

I believe we should never stop growing as long as breath enters us, life changes so quickly.

Happy Birthmonth, I almost missed it. I'm glad I didn't.

It is a most wonderous thing just how much clearer those without sight can really "see". Far too often, and for far too many, only the exterior view is all that is seen.

Thank you dearest for reminding me to look more closely at everything.

Angel, sometimes you make me realize that I am often guilty of walking through life "with my eyes wide shut". Thanks for keeping your eyes open and seeing all the beauty that is out there. Nice poem, a real reflection of the beauty within your own heart.

Angel,
sometimes the innocence of a child can put into pespective how jaded we have become. If reading that poem doesn't make you stop and reflect some then you would have to be cld=hearted indeed. Thanks for sharing it.
