Play by the Rules?

Love is alot like playing the piano. First you need to learn to play by the rules.

And then you have to forget the rules and play with your heart.

See first comment inside.

UPDATE!! I left a comment on the inside...but it seems that I am the only one who can see it. So, here it is...

"Some of you know that I play the piano. I have won contests, not because I am the best player...but because I play with my heart. I tell my piano students that anyone can learn to play the notes...but not everyone can make music."

Some of you know that I play the piano. I have won contests, not because I am the best player, but because I play with my heart. When I teach piano.....I tell my students that ANYONE can learn to play the piano. But not everyone can learn to make MUSIC.

I'm going to disagree with your own comment on this one Angel. You may be a good piano teacher but there are some of us who are truly keyboard challenged. I've taken piano lessons and it was a bust[/color. I do pretty well with playing the radio but that's about the extent of my capabilities. Now, as far as your keyboard abilities... I'd love to hear you play something tonight, maybe something soft and romantic... who knows, we might even make beautiful music together.

You're right Angel. Once you've learned to play with your heart, all pieces of music take on new feeling, new meaning for you. Sometimes it can just be a "simple, playful" thing that makes others want to play from the heart. Touches, smiles, smells, everything can play into the music from the heart!!!! hug, unlisted

Amen, Angel. The piano sings when it is played from the heart. And when played from the heart the piano produces a spectrum of emotions. LOL

2/24/2006 1:12 pm, first things first. I was NOT your piano, you really don't know if I could teach you to play, now do you? But, I do believe that there are people who can learn the notes, but not make it sound like music. Those same people could make words come to life in other ways, as in writing, or perhaps singing. I'll play the piano for you if you would like.

Unlistedone...very true. Playing from the heart can carry over into many aspects of life. Children "play" from the heart. We need to remember this....and allow our hearts that time for play...and the music we could make.....unforgetable. 143

luvpiano...yes, the piano can produce a spectrum of emotions. And my children used to say they could tell what kind of mood I was in by what I was playing. Rachmoninoff.....angry or passionate. Debussy....mellow and passionate. Mozart...stressed sometimes, or nervous. Beethovan...melancholy. Chopin...romantic and passionate. Hey! I just realized that most of the time it was passionate...and something else. Funny! Don't you play the sax? Nothing better than a soulful saxaphone.

going out to play with my heart tonight, Angel....
kisses to the keyboards of life and the
pedals on the floor, the strings that sometimes
need to be tuned and the need to practice,
practice and practice....

it's those recitals though...It's scarey when the
neighbors show up! {=}

Just a little food for thought.............
If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you...

That sounds so much like my father. He was totally uneducated formally, but his gift of music was so incredible. Pre-WW11, he was quite active in the music field, having several bands of his own as well as playing side man with numerous (former and present day) famous names.
Like Pure Personal Love itself, music seemed to flow from his fingers with no effort what-so-ever
He did try his best to teach me to play, but all of my hardest efforts were for naught. I personally cannot carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it. However, and Praise to the highest, he did instill in me a love of good music, and for that I am eternally thankful.

So Always, my sweet Angel, play with your heart at all times and any critics that cannot FEEL THAT, can KMA to H*** and back.

Angel, in as much as I do love ALL kinds of music, I will leave the selection up to you, as long as you promise me a private recital, SOMEDAY, hopefully sooner than later.

I agree with you about playing with your heart. I am a multi-instrumentalist and actually do not like playing piano as much as other instruments mostly because you don't have as much control of the instrument as some instruments. You can't really bend pitches, and you can't control the volume cresendos, decrescendos etc. as much as on lets say a saxophone, trumpet, trombone, etc. On piano once you hit the key you lose some control. Once you dampen the note, you can't increase the volume again. Being a jazz and blues player, bending pitches is essential, and you just can't do that with piano. With that being said, I love to listen to a good pianist. I remember seeing the 5 Browns on the Tony Danza show and just had to rush out and buy there CD.
