Alright....help me out!

I have never been the type of person to go to bed before 2am.....Lord knows I’ve tried many times to get my ass to sleep way before than...just doesn’t happen...I always find something to distract me and keep me up....could be something on television...a good conversation on the computer...a great telephone call... a masturbation session..... perhaps a thrilling novel...whatever the case..there is ALWAYS something that keeps me up at night....

I’ve been trying to rectify my bad sleeping habits for awhile........I just cant seem to find a sleep pattern that works for me....I’ll try and lie down around 11 or so....but find that I'm right back up working away at something else.....I most certainly would love any and all your secrets to finding the key to the perfect nights sleep...

Which brings me to my short question of the day...Are you a night owl like me....Do you stay up all hours of the night than suffer the next day.....are you someone who sleeps at a decent hour...gets their ass to bed when you know your tired....if so what’s your secret....how have you found that key balance.....I'm taking any and all advice here!....Help a girl out....what’s YOUR secret...what's YOUR sleeping pattern....?

I have a hard time sleeping also. If I do go the be early I wake up 4 hours later and just lay there. If I get 6 hours a night I am lucky. It is my work for years when I am at work my shift was midnight to noon. I had a very hard time sleeping when I first got offshore and when I get home it is almost impossible to get on a regular sleep pattern then back to work. Now I got a promotion and I when I am offshore I am on 24 hour call getting woke up in the middle of the night to fix on problem or another. I went to the Dr. and got a sleep aid that worked but I just don't like to take drugs like that. Sorry I could not help you see you later girl JD

Hey Amber, I'm a certified Night Owl and have a very cyclical sleeping rythum. I'll go for days, sometimes weeks staying up late working on homework, bills, bookkeeping, writing, blogging. I just naturally like being up late at night. Many times it's the only time I feel like I get the OH So Important "ME Time" that [sexydisaster] talks about on her blog. I get more done in the late afternoon and evening hours than any other time of day.
I hate to get up early in the morning but the older I get the less I can sleep really late unless I am totally exhausted. If I'm tired and have the opportunity I can sleep anywhere, anytime of day. SO my secret to sleeping great, is my secret to living happy, I just try to go with the flow.
My husband is not a night owl and it drives him crazy that I am b/c some times that means he goes to bed alone. I try to go snuggle with him even when I'm staying up. He is the classic insommniac with a standard of only 4-5 hours of sleep a night but I generally have to have 10 hours at a minimum. There is hope, as we live together peacefully. Hope that helps! Thanks, great post LeeAnn

Kisses,
LA

Don't ask me for sleeping advice. I'm the type that quite happily survives on 2 - 4 hrs sleep a night. Unless I have a good excuse for going to bed I will stay up most of the night in fact often I will hear the birds singing before I have even got into bed. Once I'm there getting me out is not an easy task, its not that I need the sleep its more a case of I'm comfortable and don't want to move.
Maybe you need someone to encourage you into bed sooner.

I hear you. I also stay up until the very last minute of exhaustion hits. I work random shifts, change times zones and go through bouts of 50 and 60 hrs a week and 14 - 21 days of work straight before having a day off. And that day could be be a continental crossing. Usually its a question of quality over quantity. If I sleep to much I fell like shit, to little and I'm low energy. It has caused medical problems in the past but I have learned to deal with the whims of the sand man and be productive and creative as the sleep pattern allows. I can power nap and keep going. After all its a requirement of my career as I travel long distances to work location and then large distance between regions.
The last time I had a few long sleeps was before I became a father. Waiting out my kids arrival in tucked away in a corner of south america, not much to do not to many distractions. The best organized sleep I had was when I was younger I worked in a night club in toronto. 5pm to 3am. Sleep at 5 or 6am up at 10am or so. It seems little but it was so refreshing to not need an alarm clock. Getting up in the dark is such a drag. I worked once as office clerk for a big broker in Toronto even further back. The shift started at 5am, Man, I could never get to bed before midnight. I was exhausted, falling asleep on the bus downtown from north york. Fortunately black wednesday came along and rescued me. The problem exists when I have to sink up with my families schedule when I get home. Often I take the red eye, from europe the schedules all buggered in any case. I'm working hard at it though. I can relax through breathing techniques I learned as a youngster interested in Buddhism and meditation. I can get myself in a state of mind to sleep. To early though and I wake up 3 in the morning bright and bushy. It must be hereditary though as my folks rise at 5am bed at 9 or 10pm. My kid can stay up all night then sleep in. He never really napped as a toddler, used to wander and pace the crib until crumbling in exhaustion. My goal it to teach him the benefits of down time and how to productive when exhuastion comes calling if you cant sleep. Going without sleep can be an effective skill as required.

What else do you do as a night owl Amber? Page me if your up so late tehe

Beatpoeme

Sadly there isn't always something that keeps me up at night, but you should see me first thing in the morning

*Ahem* Sorry erm moving on...I used to be a night owl but I've gradually trained myself to go to bed at a reasonable hour during the working week. I'm not sure what the secret is, routine I guess.

If you were my homework, I'd do you everyday, in every possible way.

I'm a strange breed. I am definitely a night owl but I force myself to get to bed around 11 just so I can get about 6 hours of rest. I function perfectly fine on 4 but after awhile I need to recharge in a big way. I'm also a morning person when I don't have something to do. Give me a day off or a wonderful summer morning and I'm up with the dawn basking in the morning rays.

As for advice on how to get to sleep...not too sure. Each person has there own methods. Experiment and see what happens.

Go to bed at 2 am, up at 9:30 am, go in to work at 4 pm....works for me.

As for advice for you...I dunno, ya got me stumped....
me too, except for the work at 4 part-i gotta work at 10. as for advice, wake up at the same time every day for two weeks (pick an arbitrary time like 8 or 9am, earlier than you usually get up) don't hit snooze, don't lie down again, don't take mid day naps. stay up until you're tired, after a few hellish days, you'll start to need to go to sleep earlier-not because you want to, because you have to. instead of lying there trying to sleep-you'll just conk out from being so damn tired. (this new time should be roughly your new bed time-and give you an idea of how much sleep you need) if you do this every day for two weeks, you'll reset your sleep pattern.
.
or you could just medicate yourself with booze and pills or like im your man said-find someone to get you into bed earlier.

I have no problems to go to bed and fall asleep, no problems to get out of my bed in the morning either. I've always been that way. I do need alot af sleep and that might be a problem, cause I start losing focus when I'm tired, also when I'm out in the weekends and don't have to get up early next morning I get tired fast.

Can't give you any advices, I'm sorry! I just get tired and fall asleep.
Well, I have one advise: beeing out in the fresh air for acouple of hours earlier in the evening might get you more tired, maybe some fysical exercises too.

I would rather greet the sun than to party with the moon. At night I lay down and allow my mind to make love to the words of a random book. With that love making, it tires and my eyes drift back.

Playing the game of tag every morning with the sun is my secret. I refuse to lose against the warm ball of life and it knows it. However, there have been times that the mighty fire sphere got me and I know it enjoys it all to much.

Feeling one with the morning gives me a sense of the past more so than the un-natural sense i carry when I am with the dark.

Hi there sleepy. I've come to accept people are either day folks or night folks. There's been lots of studies into this. You probably find your usually at your best later in the day if you're a night person. Me, I'm definately a night person like yourself. I'm hopeless first thing. Never firing on all cylinders till virtually midday. Good thing is I don't have to work till around then anyway, so it suits me fine. But I'm definately at my most creative late on, especially very late. It's a gene thing I think, or related to your birth time.I'd advise a cat nap in the day or early evening for a short time, and you may find this gives you a second wind. That and a good lay in on a Saturday morning. Sweet dreams Amber.

I also go to the Y at 530 in the morning and work out to ware myself down. I hope this helps you. Because I have been a night owl since college but when you have three kids you have to learn to get up in the morning.

I'm a night person. There is no hope of really changing it, I'm afraid. I remember being in 8th grade and staying up later and later in the summer until my schedule was almost reversed from everyone. It stabilized there.

I've had jobs where I had to be at work at 7am, and I was so tired at 9:30pm I would fall asleep on the couch, especially by Fridays. But there was no hope that would become a comfortable norm.

I generally am up to midnight or 1am. I start projects at midnight. I start movies at mindight. It doesn't matter that I have to get up at 6am - I just get up and am tired all day.

So - the secret to getting a restful night's sleep? Don't get up so early. Find a way to be able to start work at 10am, not 7 or 8.

I work nights, but I've always been a night owl...I just sleep when I'm tired...

My lady frets about it, but I can get by on about 4 hours sleep and keep going, but once in awhile, I'll crash for about 10 hours..sort of like a weekly recharge...

But most nights, I'm up and about....

Hmm, sleeping habits... I consider myself a night person... I love to say up late and have been known to stay up for days on end (5 max). But I can also fall asleep anywhere anytime if I choose and have been known to sleep for over 24hrs straight. I also don't suffer from jetlag; I just stay up until that time zone goes to bed. I do know I have a pretty big buffer for sleep and that my body and mind prefer 7-8hrs of it, I just never listen.

The only routine I have with sleep is a M-F 7:30am wakeup and I'm usually up 1 min before the alarm. The only advice I can give is, never hit snooze and great sex will keep you up all night!

It used to worry me that I didn't get enough sleep, but now I just figure, If my body doesn't wanna sleep, it doesn't wanna sleep. I'm not sure if I'm human, though. I mean I can go days and days without sleep, and have more energy than a person could believe. The key for me, has been to stop worryin about it. Haven't had problems since.

I am not terribly older than you, but... At right about the age you are now I really changed my philosophy about work, and started working for myself. It is amazing how easy it is to go to bed when you have nothing left at the end of each day. Oh, I almost forgot I said bed, and not sleep. Sometimes I can't fall asleep because I am franticly worrying about making payroll, or the city inspectors, whatever. Then I try to remember the names of all my kindergarten classmates, and out like a light.

Amber, I'm a night owl as well. the nights leading into days off it's full tilt till 0130 - 0200 and up early around 0700 - 0800. The bed time is fairly consistent. Since I work twelve hour day shifts 0700 - 1900 (+/- an hour, more +) my bedtime is usually 0030. Yes I can find any excuse to enjoy the night and like you they are varied. The late hours are comforting and calming. People you "run" into at the later hours, be it on-line or in the 24 hour grocery store are as interesting as you, me, or any other night owl. As far as advice goes, why change if you are happy.>>>itsallfun1957

I'm a night owl, too! I have to be up by 6am for work, so I try to get to sleep between 11pm and midnight. Doesn't always work. It seems that I just go and go until I can't go anymore, then I end up wasting an entire day sleeping! Sometimes I'll take a nap in the afternoon or evening - makes me feel better, but doesn't do anything to correct my sleeping pattern! For a second there I thought I might be able to help, but now I realize that I'm not much better off than you are! Good luck, and please share if you figure something out!

First of all... AWESOME Profile & Attitude!... that being said... when I was about... oh... let's say... 13... yeah.. that would be about right... I was learning about time studies, (analysis of time in a process, function, etc...), and I began studying my own time... writing it all down... every minute of every day...

What I soon discovered was that if I lived to be 90 years old... and slept eight hours of each day... I would effectively sleep 30, yes... THIRTY years of my life away...

FUCK THAT!... I'll stay awake! From then on... I sleep three to four hours each night.. I'm happy & I'm fine... ha, ha... ok... I know I'm happy... but the fine part is a matter of opinion I suppose...

I would imagine a smart lil' hottie such as yourself already truly knows the secret to a good nights sleep... a good LONG sex session puts you out like a light... I'm talking at a MINIMUM of two hours... quickies won't do... they'll put your man out, but unfortunately wake you up like its the crack of dawn...

Psychologically... two things will make you sleep, (with the exception of drugs or alcohol);

1. Satisfaction... the preferred choice... happy with life, your accomplishments, your mate, your sex life, etc... you gotta be happy!

2. Depression... makes you tired... but will not allow good healthy sleep... typically, if you're not satisfied with your life conditions, you'll generate the most perfect 'drowsy anxiety', and no amount of sleep will help... you'll sleep, wake up... feel shitty and tired... and continue the cycle...

The cool part... all of your descriptors for what keeps you up, "a good conversation on the computer...a great telephone call... a masturbation session..... perhaps a thrilling novel...", are positive, things... "good, great, thrilling"... that's AWESOME!

It sound like you're a happy person... with perhaps just a small void or two to fill...

A famous brunette comedienne has a skit in her routine where she asks the audience who else can't sleep at night... when my sexy lil' wife and I went to see her with a group of friends... she posed that question and can ya believe I was the only frickin' idiot in the audience that raised my hand...

So she says "Great... just me and one other guy can't sleep"... she points at me and inquires "So... just what are you doing at 3:00 AM instead of sleeping?"

I raised my hand... pointed at my wife and said one word... "HER"... that brought the house down...

Ok... for anyone that read thus far... Thanks! Happy Hunting Everyone!

Incidentally, perhaps unfortunately, I tend to have some of the same irregular f***ing sleep patterns … no doubt one of the primary symptoms for one trapped in recovery from some pervious sex life, eh? Currently, if it weren't for pickpockets and blogs like yours I'd have no sex life at all. When seen from this distance, your problems are somehow much smaller than mine.

Hi there,

There are definately two things that help with sleeping, which I'm sure you're already aware of but will add this comment just the same - regular exercise and a regular practice of meditation (of which there are many methods that would help). The most simple meditation that helps is a single pointed meditation such as on your breath, a flame or even just a dot on a wall. For how to properly do meditation there are numerous places in Toronto that offer classes.
