Deleting Comments

Blogs are generally open, and open to comment. Wandering around AdultFriendFinder Blogland, I see all types of posts and comments, some nice, some not so nice, some down right rude or offensive.

I feel that if I allow comments on my blog, I have a responsibility to take the rough with the smooth, i.e. it's open to people to post as they see fit - if there is something I have an issue with, I'll dealt with it in a reply.

I feel the same applies to other bloggers who allow comments on their blogs.

So what I'm pissed about is I made a comment on a post and it appears to have been removed or deleted - vanished into cyber nothingness - and without the courtesy of letting me know that my post was unwelcome/unwanted/inappropriate/disliked/whatever.
I have no want or need to go where I'm not welcome and a short and simple pointer to that effect would achieve the desired result.

And at least, I would respect you, and feel you respected me. Instead....

So, the question is:

Is it appropriate to remove a comment on a blog posting without informing the person who made the comment of the reason for doing it?
Yes
No

to me it would really depend on the comment that was made. If it was mean, downright mean, then i would say yes, you have a right to remove it. On the other hand I do agree with you that if you open yourself up to comments you should be just that, open. I have never deleted a comment left for me.It would have to be something really bad for me to delete it.Everyone has the right to choose that for themselves.

If a person is unwelcomed in your home then don't you have the right to remove them from your premises? Just apply the same premis to our blog.

Hi Naked Tuesday,

I'm not questioning anyone's right to do what they want, be it remove someone from their home, or remove a post from their blog.

I just happen to think it would be "nicer" if you want to remove such a post, to let the person concerned know, and maybe even tell them why. After all, the comment is there because the blogger invited comments.

To take the analogy with a person in your home, a comment poster approaches on the assumption that they are welcome, i.e. invited to make comments
