Sleeping in the cacophony of snorers

I wonder why it is that I sleep better when I'm away from home? My mom snores her head off, but she doesn't bother me if I am already sleeping.

At home, I would wake up the moment her freight train started up. It would make me mad and I'd have to throw pillows at her and tell her to shut up!

You think it's because I am away from responsibility for a bit, so I am not worrying all the time? Or maybe because I am not alone?

We have 3 beds in this room, 2 regular beds and a roll away. My mom who doesn't sleep in a bed at home (she sleeps on the couch) claimed the roll away.

My son is sleeping in the bed next to mine. He snores a little but it's soft, snuffling snores. He's quiet as compared to the Grand Champion of Snoring in the roll away bed over there in the corner.

I'm still puny. Better than I was but I still have my moments of coughing my head off. I have antibiotics but my mom has come down with a urinary tract infection and I put her on my antibiotics. They aren't the best for coverage of a UTI but seem to be working.

I've seen older women get septic from a UTI and die. The bad germs growing in their urinary tract get into the blood stream. Their body is overwhelmed and without the right antibiotics and sometimes even with the right ones, they die anyway.

My baby girl is sick too, been having to doctor on her. The good news is that she's coming home for a few weeks!!! YAY!! But I'm almost to the point of not wanting them (my kids) to come home cause I miss them so bad when they're gone.

Anyway, no one but me is awake so I may try to go back to sleep. Mac

ps that's a picture of my mom snoring, I swear it looks just like her!

I remember family camping trips used to be horrible. Mom and Dad both snore. My sis and I would lay there with our pillows smashed over our ears until we got so tired that we fell asleep anyway.

I can relate to sleeping better away from home. People usually say it's good to be home, but I love hotel rooms. They are more conducive to sleeping.

The curtains block out so much light that I still get annoyed by the strip of light from the top or down the middle if the two panels don't overlap properly. I love sleeping in total darkness.

Since I don't pay for the electricity directly, I can set the temp to just the right level. And I keep the fan running for white noise.

Not to mention the luxury of a King Size bed. That will be my first purchase when I move from my friend's house. My future ex only wanted a Queen Size bed. I want a bed as big as possible. If it took up the whole room that would be fine with me.

Enjoy you're hotel stay as long as possible.....

Yeah, I love keeping it freezing cold and getting all covered up and cozy.

I always hated having to sleep in the same room as my parents on trips. They both snore really really loud.

I can pretty much hang anywhere and only have difficulty falling asleep in overly stressful situations...outside of that, I can crash just about when needed. I did find that I've slept better since getting a pillow-top mattress several years ago. I do enjoy the comfort of coming home to my own bed...

As for the snoring...I can rival anyone out there. Guess that's not necessarily a good thing though.

I only snore when I'm sick, so I may have been snoring this past week. Usually I am very quiet, stay pretty much in one place.

Hi, Mac. Sorry you're having trouble sleeping, although it sounds better than if you were lying awake at home. I guess if you really need help falling asleep, I could call you....

My ex-wife complained that I snore, but I don't think that I do. I guess I need a second opinion.

It's amazing how seductive are the sounds our children make! Their sounds seduce us into paying attention from the time of the blood-curdling infant wail.

I lean on my arm and watch my beautiful daughter with her little kewpie doll mouth open and breathing so peacefully--after the little bugger has elbowed me awake while she sleeps on.

You know that my son is grown? LOL He no longer makes cute little noises in his sleep. He is however a piece of my heart, and for that reason his soft snoring is endearing

Snoring what snoring.I am practically dead when I sleep. I have to set my alarm 30 minutes early to make sure I wake up. I use to snore, then the tonsils came out and end of that. I do hope that all of you kids get feeling better. In one sense it is funny you all have some kind of ailment at the same time. It might have something to do with all the fuss at the graduation. Oh by the way congrats to your daughter. You must be one proud lady.
