Mac has an Attack!

This afternoon I went with Rocky to a sporting goods store. He likes guns, the more the better in his view.

I don't really have a stand wither way on guns. I don't think guns kill people, people kill people.

None of that is really here ot there. We walked in and almost immediately started with that little tickle in my throat. My face started itching. I didn't break out in hives but my lungs itch. Sounds weird I know. My face is broken out though. I have a big zit right between my eyes. I am presuming from rubbing my face, ugh.

We finished doing stuff there. I had to stop at CVS and buy an antihistamine and some pepcid.

Allergic reactions are mediated by histamine. Antihistamines block this reaction of course. What most folks don't know is that some anti acid meds are histamine 2 blockers. Pepcid, Zantac, Tagamet but not Prilosec.

So if you ever think you're having an allergic reaction to something, take Benadryl and something like Pepcid immediately. It helped.

I walked in the door tonight looking for an inhaler though. Mine is about dead. Remind me to ask my doc for a refill Mac

Nah, not allergic to guns. I go shoot sometimes with Rocky, but he sold "my" gun, the 9mm (that Bastard!) I think it was all the deer mounts. I bet there were 10 deer heads in there. There's just no telling. I am allergic to guns if they arepointed at me. I'd break out... either in a terrible sweat or breakout in running as fast as I could, which isn't very fast or very far.

And H2's may have an added effect, but it's best to stick with the H1 antagonists like Benadryl. H2's just don't pack the same punch.

Yes Slim, they're synergistic. That's why I too said take both. I'm a nurse. I work in the ER. I've seen all manner of allergic reaction. Most we never figure out what they are reacting to. Used to have a guy come in with angioedema... swelling in the mouth that can lead to airway compromise.. the swelling can close off the windpipe. This guys angioedema however just involved his top lip and top lip alone. He looked like Donald Duck. The only thing that worked to get it down was Tagamet. He came in 4-5 times a month. I said to Dr. B, just give him a script for Tagamet to take everyday. He did and we never saw the guy again!!

I think Rocky sounds like my kind of guy, definitely has a good taste for female friends

/ Consider this a second reminder - ask the doc for a refill

I know the feeling well, of not having a good inhaler. It's a scarey thought for me

Thanks for the info. Didn't know that. Oh, and don't forget to ask the doc.
