Anybody Fancy A Bounty?

Hello my dear caffeinated readers all over the warming globe.
In response to the million dollar bounty placed on the head of Danish cartoonist by Pakistani “prayer leader” Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi, I'd like to announce my counter bounty. No !!, my dear friends I am not taking off any pieces of skimpy clothing but……Anyone who hits Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi in the face with a pie, preferably in the middle of leading prayers, will get 50 euros ,a signed letter of appreciation from me and one cup of my special coffee. I know it's not a million dollars, and I know the pie assassin will probably be doomed to a lifetime on the run from assorted Islamic virgin seekers, but I feel it's the least I can do.

Listen, Mr Q : I understand you feel obligated as a macho religious prick to call for the deaths of people you never met to protest cartoons you've probably never seen, but you need to understand that, in the classroom of the world, you're the unwashed delinquent wearing a dunce cap in the corner. Nobody likes you, nobody thinks you're cool, nobody's impressed. Your country has just recently been hit by a terrible earthquake, people are homeless, dying in the cold, and you're worried about... cartoons !!. Mohammed Yousaf Qureshi, I'm calling you on your bullshit. You're a bad person and a bad Muslim, and you've done more to defame your own religion than any petty Scandinavian shit disturber ever could.

Oh yes...Happy Monday to all of you

..."HATE everybody that we cannot control"...that is the Muslim extremist's moto.
You go girl....thats telling him. It will be a great day if one of his own followers wakes up and throw him with a pie! I'm sure we can also promise 50 virgens to the one that completes the task...

OK I give in - I went and looked at the cartoons. What do I think? I think the cartoons are not anti-Islamic. I think, and I may be wrong, that they represent the cartoonists view of an Islamic extremist's view of Mohammed. As such I do not feel the cartoons themeselves are offensive. Not funny, but not offensive.

I also do not believe that knives and guns are, in and of themselves, offensive. Guns have been carried by peace-keepers for years and knives, well, I use one myself to cut, prepare and eat food.

Having said that all of the above can be used in an offensive manner and I believe that much of the re-publishing and reprinting of the cartoons was designed to cause offence. I will concede that a degree of the re-publishing of the cartoons were statements defending free speach.

I defend absolutely the right to free speach and we do have to take whatever steps are required to defend this right. However we also have to be aware that with every absolute right that free people have there is a corresponding duty to ensure that we do not abuse that right to cause offence or harm to others.

On the other side of the coin the response in parts of the Islamic communities around the world has been, to say the least, disproportionate. Many, including myself, would say that the reaction of a lot of Muslim clerics is evil and appears to be totally against the teachings of Islam. I would expect true followers of Allah to condemn and prevent those amongst them who twist their faith for political advantage. As I understand Islamic law:
"A basic and fundamental truth established by the sacred texts of Islam (Quran and Hadeeth) is that: - "No one can be compelled to accept Islam!"
It is the duty of the Muslims to establish proof of validity of Islam to the people in order for the truth to be distinct from falsehood. Once that is done, whoever wishes to accept Islam may do so and whoever wishes to continue upon their belief may do so. No one is to be threatened or harmed in any way should they chose not to accept Islam."
Unfortunately it is not just Islamic teachings that are twisted to suit the purpose of the politically ambitious, it is just the current headline example. Those of us that live in or are connected with Ireland would know all about that, as would many people who can remember Western Europe in the middle of the last century.

Anyway, to end a long rant, the common thread that seems to run through all of the various religious wars or conflicts in recent history has been the tolerance of injustice combined with the existence of political demagogues that are quick to take advantage of this injustice to persue their own agendas.

When we do manage to export Justice and Dignity to all corners of the world then, and only then, will we be able to deprive the demagogues of the fuel they need to set the world alight.

OK - not having a drink didn't work - still get the verbal trots from time to time.
Thank you for listening and as the prophet Dave Allen would say "Good night and may your God go with you".
