LEST WE FORGET.....If we do, we live in shame.:(

In dedication to all the men and now women who have fought and died to preserve my Freedom.....

These thoughts were prompted by a recent post I made in the rants titled " We the People" and the upcoming dedication of a War Memorial in my city on Nov. 11th.

I've taught History. Have always been an avid "history buff". Especially well read on Wars. From ancient to modern. Expert on the American Civil War and WW II. Unfortunately man's inhumanity toward his fellow man, in the form of War, has been one of the most significant and driving forces in human history! Driving social, political, economic and religious change. It is the human condition. War has always been and sadly will always remain, with us!IMHO

WW II for a long and complex list of reasons "created" an environment that allowed the Sexual revolution to take place. Especially for Women! It is a Historical Fact! I state it here without explanation because it would take too long. WW II was a focal point for economic, political, and in regards to the Sexual revolution, Social change in the USA. Although significant, getting the vote did not vastly change women's social position in the country. Social advancement and independence for women was a direct result of WW II. True story!

My Point is....Without WW II this site might very well not exist!.........the sexual revolution may never have occurred. Think about that!!!

War is a Terrible thing! The cost in innocent lives is so abhorrent and tragic and of such a magnitude that thinking of it sqeezes my heart like a fist! There are not enough tears in the world to shed. Yet I sit at this keyboard with a knowledge as certain as the earth revolving the sun, that....The FREEDOM I ENJOY to partake in this site is the Direct Result of Change brought About By War!! The SACRIFICE of So Many young innocent lives protected MY Freedom!

FDR exceeded and abused presidential power. He violated our constitution and lied to the American people. Actions I do not condone by ANY American President. Yet he was One of the Greatest Presidents in our history. The Right man, in the Right job, at Precisely the Right Time. Somehow he understood that a War HAD to be fought! I'm grateful!!(much the same could be said of Abraham Lincoln)

I'm grateful to all those whose sacrifice was required by War. Required to Protect and Insure MY FREEDOM!

LEST WE FORGET.....you will find these words attached to many a War Memorial! If I forget I Live in Shame......

Beautifully written! And we agree with you 100%...I am left in awww. I myself do not know as much about war,as you and my husband. While reading this post to him it brought about a serious conversation about the war that is going on now. How many people have died....and friends that have faught. Also the differences in the war now and wars in the past. I...We will never forget those who..in all different times....have died and lost loved ones just so WE can be free. Free to use our time and everything else how we choose. Thanks for an excellent post!

I agree wholeheartedly that war IS a terrible ordeal, and that there will ALWAYS be war. As long as there is oppression there are wars to be fought and brave women and men to fight them.

So many wars have been fought in the name of freedom. The War of Independence - a biggie for us Americans. Had that war not been fought, who knows what the world would be like today.

The absolute horror of World War II is so breathtakingly tragic. So much death and destruction in so many countries - including our own. The act of war itself does affect everything. With the men off fighting during WWII, the women in the US stepped up to fill the roles left empty. When the war was over many of those women found it difficult to just fade into the background of society again. And so women's fight for equality began in earnest.

Has there been a president in the history of our country that HAS NOT exceded and abused presidential power in one form or another? I sincerely doubt it.

Most wars that the US have been involved in have been necessary and I am truly grateful to the those women and men who have defended our country, as well as to their families who have experienced such tremendous loss for the sake of our freedom. That said, I am deeply saddened by the unecessary sacrifices made during wars that should not have continued for the length of time that they have or just should not have been.

I'm reminded daily of the losses to war and man inhumanity to fellow men, and I will never forget the brave men and women that fight for a brighter future.
