Yes, yes, I love Crack! I'm absolutely cuccoo for crack!

I'm driving into work yesterday, along the treacherous stretch of I-84 between Waterbury and Bristol. It has been under construction since about the Cretacious Period. Every so often, some truck (pick-up or rig) ahead of me will kick some rubble up onto my car. Hell, I had a nice little asterisk crack right above my wiper blade two weeks after I bought the damn thing. It didn't expand, so I didn't worry about it.

Yesterday, it happened again. I heard the smack, realized what happened, and kept driving (cause it happens every three days on average. The pickup ahead of me sped up, which I found odd, until I noticed the three inch crack forming at the top center of my windshield. I was already at my exit, so I didn't bother chasing him to get his license plate number.

As I pulled into work, my eyes were deceiving me. The crack appeared larger. I felt inside the car and outside, along the crack, but felt nothing. Which means only one thing, the pebble, which was lodged directly top center, had caused an air bubble to form in the glass. And guess what kiddies? Heat (100 muthafucking degrees) makes air expand. In the fifteen minutes it took me to go inside my building, grab my tapes, and go back to the car to go to my other building, the crack had doubled in size, and started curving back up toward the top, about a third of the way down the glass.

It took an hour to make the arrangements with my insurance company and the nearest glass shop. One of my coworkers was just getting off, so he followed me to the shop to drop off the car for the night, and took me back to work.

I crashed at my buddy Eric's place (the guy who, incidentally, was also my ride the whole week leading up to the purchase of the car). Being pop culture and reality TV nerds that we were, we ended up tittering like school girls watching TiVo till about 5am. He woke me at 11, and we were at work at noon. Unfortunately, I wasn't on the clock till 2:30, so I had a nice, bored early afternoon.

We got my car at 3. The new windshield looks great, especially considering that I didn't have to pay for it (first time I'm thankful that I had to carry full insurance coverage). Then, while at work, I had a nice little conversation to confirm a day of fun at Six Flags tomorrow. But now, I need sleep, cause I'm beat, and I'm gonna need all the energy I can get tomorrow.

Yeah, it's nice when it's free. When J backed into my door it cost about $3200. to fix, we only paid our $200. deductable. That was sweet.
