Well, it looks like I may be hanging around for a while

I haven't heard back from the NFL yet, but it may be a moot point (By the way, according to the dictionary, we've been misusing the word, "moot" for years. Apparently, "moot" means "arguable," so we've been using it in the exact opposite connotation. So next time someone tells you it's a moot point, say, "It's not moot, it's moot!" They'll be confused, and you'll be right, and laughing).

One of my bosses (the one who changed my schedule earlier this week) sat me down for an impromptu meeting while he was signing my time sheet.

One of the projects we've been working on in the department is an interactive version of our network's signature show. I volunteered to help write a script for a 60 second version, just cause I wanted to do some writing. I knew I couldn't have the project, cause I'm only a Production Assistant, and this is a job for a Producer. So I wrote the pilot script (my other boss wrote the second draft), and they assigned me to do two edits of the show, one taking the 1am broadcast and shortening it to 15 minutes, then again to 5 minutes. That footage was submitted, along with its use against my 60 second script, to the department brass.

Well, last week we learned that the 60 second project has been picked up. So starting later this summer, all users on our website will be able to watch a 60 second Center of Sports.

My boss decided to reward my initiative and diligence (his words), by making me the backup producer of this project. I'm still a Freelance PA, and my checks still come from someone other than the company itself, but basically, my capacity will be this. In addition to my current duties, I will spend this month getting intensive training in all our systems (when the XtremeGames roll around next month, we'll be down to half staff, so I gotta be able to pick up the slack), as well as training with the producer who will be in charge of the project for the time being, and together we'll make a few dry runs. Then, once the project goes live, I will be, in essence, the backup. This is a 7 day a week project, and we'll be hiring someone to cover it full time, but there will still be 2 days a week that someone else will have to cover this. This is my reward. I helped make it happen, so I'm getting a piece of the action.

My boss also hinted to me that there will most likely be a raise for me as further thanks. Yay, more money!

So even if the League gets back to me, it will be harder for me to leave. I already decided that if they offered me a job, they'd have to at the very least, offer me a salary of $2500 more a year, help cover the moving expenses to Los Angeles, and give me benefits. Now, if I do in fact get this raise, that'll raise the bar for any potential offer from the League. There's no way I'm moving to LA (which is where I actually want to be someday), where it's even more expensive to live than CT, without a salary to match that cost of living increase, and there's certainly no way I'm taking a pay cut.

So, to the CT bloggers, you're stuck with me a little while longer. To CA, looks like you'll have to marinate in your juices for now. Big Billy's coming eventually, but odds are not in your favor right now.

I'm glad you're staying in CT. You wouldn't like LA anyway, it's crowded, expensive and lots of smog. Oh and VERY HOT!!!

Yup...LA sucks, the traffic is every bit as bad as they make it out and you can't find a decent place to rent for less than 1,000/ month...except in zip codes where you should have your own firearm.

Forget the NFL Network. Isn't ESPN in Bristol??

That's where I work now. But the eventual ambition is to write TV shows and films. That would necessitate a move to the west coast.
