Thinking about traveling...

So I've been seriously thinking about taking a few months to travel. My company is merging with another huge company, which may leave me without a job. As sad as that may sound, 6 months severance and benefits is a pretty enticing offer. I'd be able to pay off my CC debt, and have enough to go travel.

With all that's been going on, I figure taking some time, just to myself, to explore the vastness of this world is exactly what I need to get myself back on track. A lot of people do the European experience, but I don't know, I'm thinking I need to do something different. I'm thinking about starting out in Japan, then hopping to Thailand, Malaysia maybe, down through Indonesia and French Polynesia and end up in Australia.

What are everyone's thoughts on places to travel to or suggestions from prior experiences?

I agree. Thailand is one of the stops I'd really like to make. I'm daunted though. People who do Eurpoe can get by with one currency, one train pass, and nap sack with an extra change of clothes. If I plan to do a South-East Asian excursion, I'll have to plan a lot more (airline tickets from country to country, for example). That's not exactly what I had in mind. I want to be as care-free as I can be, but Europe just ain't my bag, not now at least. Not really sure where to begin!!
