Happy Father's Day

To all the wonderful dad's out there...whether your children are grown, still in diapers, or on the way...whether they are your's by blood or by choice...whether you are living in the home or having to do it from afar...

They say there is no greater bond than that between a mother and her child but I can tell you for me...my Daddy is truly my hero. My dad was not my birth father and after awhile he no longer lived in my home, but he was, is, and always will be my dad. When my biological father chose not to be there, my step-dad stepped in and raised me as his own. When my parent's marriage failed, my dad chose to continue in the role he had chosen to play for years even when he didn't have to.

My dad taught me how to ride a horse, rope a steer, skin a rabbit, drive a truck, pull a trailer, and cut a hog. He taught me how to get up after falling down and that an ouchy was a long way from my heart and I would be okay. He taught me about perserverence, determination, and drive. He taught me that there may be rain sometimes but without it we wouldn't have rainbows. He taught me about heartache and pain...but he also taught me about tolerance and forgiveness. We didn't always have the best relationship and at times it was down-right awful...but somehow we always have managed to work out the kinks and get things back.

I think the greatest thing my dad ever taught me was love...and for that I am eternally grateful.

And for all you father's out there that aren't doing right by your child...GET UP OFF YOUR ASS AND BE ABOUT SOMETHING. Any man can make a baby...but it takes a REAL MAN to be a father and a SPECIAL MAN to be a dad.
