will the rain ever stop?

I had a horrible experience working in the rain today. It was for a good cause...to bring a little sunshine into the lives of handicapped children and adults. A little olympic site for the special olympics. But I still didn't like getting wet the way we did.

For hours the sky fell, first just annoying then the temp dropped and downpours came. Still we pressed on, setting up a magical playground for the special souls that deserve it. Of course I didn't dress for the weather and the wetter I got, the worse I felt. My skin had wrinkles on its wrinkles, even turned a pale blue in places. Shivers ran over my body like waves in the ocean. My muscles sore from trembling. You get the picture, downright miserable.

The work continued, setup would be accomplished rain or shine. Soon the wind picked up and the temp dropped even more. We finally decided it was time to give in to mother natures fury. We packed things up, warmed up for a few and got info for the next days activities.

Not more than 1 hour after closing up shop did the sun poke its little head through the clouds and cleared up the skies above. The temperature began to rise and steam bellowed off the pavement. By this time I had stopped at the store and purchased a new sweat suit to break my chill. Mother nature is so cruel sometimes.

Now you may ask...isn't this guy in the military? He should be used to adverse conditions. And I agree, I am used to it but there comes a time when even the strongest of wills breaks down like a little sissy boy. After so much abuse, a man can only give in to the harshness of reality and admit defeat, or continue on and fall to the pressure. I did not want to fall this day, cuz who would make the little bubbles blow in the air come game-day?

OK, my rant is concluded, thanx for listening.

You didn't give in.

Your spirit didn't break.

You just realised that you were going to sacrifice yourself in that manner...

Being aware is pretty rare these days. No point getting yourself hit with influenza or pneumonia so you can say 'oooh i did all this in -10 weather'

You were smart.

Yeah, you're right, and like I said...it was for a good cause.

Now that it is over and I saw the joy that came to the faces of the kids, it was worth every bit of misfortune.
