Today I 'ave mostly been ...

...hiding myself away from the world behind my MP3 player.

Amazing how you can keep the unwelcome thoughts at bay with a barrage of sound piped into the ears.

Good sounds? Well, I guess they show my age if nothing else! Judge for yourself:

U2 - Beautiful Day
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
Mike Oldfield - In Dulci Jubilo
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Roxy Music - Love is the Drug
The Byrds - Turn, Turn, Turn
Neil Young - Hey, Hey, My, My
Stereophonics - Nothing Compares 2U
Jethro Tull - Fallen on Hard Times
David Bowie - Changes
No Doubt - Don't Speak
Blackmore's Night - Diamonds and Rust
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper
Elvis Costello - I Don't Want To Go To Chelsea
Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
Jerry Rafferty - Baker Street
Status Quo - Caroline
ZZ Top - Gimme All Your Lovin'
Stevie Nicks - Rooms on Fire
Athlete - Wires
R.E.M. - Try Not To Breathe
James Blunt - You're Beautiful
Coldplay - In My Place
Lucky Jim - Halleluja
Sheryl Crow - A Change Would Do You Good
Derek & The Dominos - Layla

And if you're reading this, Helga, maybe you'd like a stab at finding the cover versions

By the way, J... not too sure Gerry would like it that you have done to him what others do to you...

As Helga said, "not too sure Gerry would like it that you have done to him what others do to you" ...

OUCH! Guilty as charged ... and mightily humbled too.

Right...

Here's some useless information for you

Did you know that the words to The Byrds song "Turn, Turn, Turn" were adapted from the Bible?

Neil Young wrote two songs with the words "Hey Hey" in them... Hey, Hey and Hey, Hey, My, My (Into the Black) ...

Status Quo wrote a song called Caroline and a song called Carol

Blue Oyster Cult's song is just called The Reaper...

The obvious cover is Stereophonics "Nothing Compares to U"...

and I'm also guessing the Beach Boys. A lot of people think that Derek & The Dominos did the cover of Layla... but actually, it was Erik Clapton who did... and I personally love his acoustic version!

*Shakes TQG* okay... you can wake up now... I've finished rambling on!

Hx

PS. I love No Doubt's Simple Kind of Life and Hella Good is a favourite driving song of mine

aha! the two neil young songs have the same chord sequence but one's played acoustically and one with the crazy horse boys in full flight. he's done that a few times (cf "rocking in the free world")...

now waits for some who really knows what they're talking about to blow him out of the water...

Must admit...Layla by EC is about the only one I recognise haha. Well..the mention of Stereophonics and "Nothing Compares to U " rings a couple of bells. Such a philistine...I m ashamed LOL. Maybe I shall have to lock myself in for a week(end) and get the earphones out,,or do some serious downloading!!!

Not a bad start Helga!

The lyrics for "Turn, Turn, Turn" *were* adapted from the Bible (Book of Ecclesiastes to be precise) so I guess that could be considered to be a cover version

If you want to be *really* pedantic (what do I mean, "if"???), the Blue Oyster Cult song is called "(Don’t Fear) the Reaper"

The Beach Boys song is all their own work but, yes, the 'phonics one is a cover version (dead give away really as I mentioned it in *your* blog" lol). And there are, oh, a few more cover versions hidden in there. Anyone want to help Helga?

And, I have to add that, in my turn, I am less than convinced that Eric Clapton would like what you've done to *his* name either, ma'am ... though I'm sure Uncle Erik would be suitably impressed. Oh, that makes me feel better

*checks spelling*

*Helga chalks one up on the board* J = 1... H = 0....mmm, but I'm still winning!

Okay, okay, so I have Erik on the brain... I miss him... 'nuff said.

*Helga stalks off to give Lindsey a call... never thought that FM would ever do covers!!*
