They Came in Threes!

"What's this?" I hear you ask, wondering if this could possibly be a piece about threesomes. Of course not - how often do I blog about sex in here?

If that's not too great a disappointment for you, read on and I promise you'll understand the title by the time I'm through.

Those of you who read yesterday's blog Proudly Presenting may recall that I had an important presentation to prepare today that I then have to give tomorrow morning, bright and early.

Well, as expected, little got done during the course of the working day as I tackled other important tasks. Come 5pm, though, the departments started to quieten, the phone stopped ringing and my colleague and I sat down to start work.

We opened Powerpoint and had our hands poised above the keyboard when the power failed. In theory, we have fall-back capacity that kicks in automatically so we shouldn't even notice a power cut. In theory ...

In practise, we waited 20 minutes before our PCs came back on again.

So it goes.

Still, once we started writing the presentation it flowed well. We had most of it done by the time the second power cut hit.

I'm sure at some point you've lost work due to a power failure (or even from user error) and have learned to save your work regularly. Yes and so have I ... except this time I guess we were so carried away that we, um, hadn't.

So it goes.

Granted the power cut lasted only 10 minutes or so this time. I have to say, too, that putting the presentation together a second time was even faster than the first time around. After all, we could remember what we'd decided to say.

Even so, I was glad when it was finished. By this time no one was left in the department other than the two of us. I suppose it was almost inevitable that I should discover at this point that my coat and umbrella had been locked in one of the offices. And that I couldn't trace a key!

And, moreover, that it would be raining heavily outside!

So it goes.

There's an English saying that trouble comes in threes (I told you I'd explain!). I've decided that this means my run of bad luck is finished for the moment and that must surely mean that the actual presentation tomorrow morning will go smooth as silk.

I feel your 'pain'.... and we have the same saying in the US..... also for the more morbid... 'death comes in threes, too'.
I don't think you need any luck for your presentation... you'll do great!!!
