Taking a Break

I have decided I shall take a short holiday. It's been a long time since I escaped the hurly-burly of the city and the pressures of the nine-to-five so I am going to take a quick break.

As I can't really afford to travel at the moment and can't take the time off work, I shall take a quick break from sanity instead.

Please note that, for the next few hours, I will be known as Derek.

Derek is a frustrated accountant who has secretly nurtured an ambition to become a porn star ever since he inadvertently saw "Deep Throat" (though he hired it thinking it was a political thriller). This ambition has so far been rather hampered by two basic facts: (1) Derek, at 43, is a virgin, and (2) his Mum won't let him stay out late.

He also suspects that he might have a bra fetish and he's trying to find out whether it's normal. He'd even go so far as to say that he loves bras though he's so far resisted the temptation to take them to bed.

He plays bingo a lot because he's figured out from his extensive TV viewing that it's the favourite pastime of younger women (Advertising Cliches ) ...

Fortunately, he also likes football (soccer, my dear American readers, soccer) and will be watching the World Cup* qualifying match against Northern Ireland tonight. He may even indulge himself in a small beer as it is such a festive occasion.

He will not however, venture online onto this or any other system: he has heard about how easy it is to get into trouble and has no desire to be groomed as anyone's sex toy.

Rest assured that I will thoroughly enjoy my vacation but also that when you next see this handle appear in chat, it will be a post-vacation Quiet, refreshed, relaxed and ... other things beginning with "r".

* Note for Americans: This should not be confused with the baseball World Series for at least two reasons: first, it is infinitely less dull (ooo contentious!); second, it uses a definition of "World" that might confuse less well-travelled Americans in that it extends beyond the borders of North America.

I was going to leave a comment. But as you correctly deduced, that would increase your standing in the popularity stakes, so I decided not to.

Al ... I'm glad that you didn't help me along by such artificial means, sir

RSP ... It's all meant to be tongue-in-cheek, ma'am. I have many, many friends in the US, made through both lengthy periods working there and through my various online activities. I am not naturally given to causing offence and I can only apologise - honestly apologise - for apparently offending you.

Taking a break from sanity? What a concept.

Someday I hope to discover what sanity truly is...enjoy yourself Derek, brew and (soccer) balls.

Rabid is another "r" word. That would be close to insane, no?

Shame on you TQG, you have been reading my diary, and have stole parts of it to brighten up your blog,
to take a break from sanity however, I assume a new personality , and enter the EHT, where I am a self -assured, witty friendly person , who is polite , kind and nice to everybody, especialy the younger women.

ps , Mommy DOES let me stay out at night

To be technical, the World Series does not extend beyond the borders of the US. Imagine the chaos if Canadians (or even - dare I say it? - Mexicans) were to compete in our national pastime! What's next? Warm beer and "chips" at the concession stands?

We'll keep our World Series to ourselves, thank you. After all, the best way to win is to keep everyone else from playing.

Spiky ... Hmmm ... I can see your point. It makes me wonder whether the English football team should have re-defined the term World Cup in the same way after 1962. No! Get thee behind me Satan - I must not give in to such defeatism

GBC, De ... I should have added "Any similarity to real persons, alive or dead, is purely coincidental and therefore not worth sueing my ass (or other four-legged mammal) over". Glad to hear Mom's easing off a little bit now though, GBC

Dizzy ... We don't think We have multiple personalities ...

SweetAlyssum ... Rabid wasn't one of the words I had in mind, I must admit ... the overall idea is that my little break would allow me to restore my earlier sanity ... I'm not entirely sure it's worked though

And thanks to you all for your good wishes - implicit or explicit!
