TQG is Unwell

For those of you who don't already know, I am a Jeff by name. Not, I hasten to point out, a Jeffrey (though official documents will tell a different story) - the second syllable changes the way the name sounds and will forever more be linked with the sound of my dear departed Mum shouting it at me.

Jeffrey also brings back unfortunate memories for many of a pioneering childrens TV show called "Rainbow" (well, it was pioneering ... surely "pioneering" doesn't have to mean good?). I am well aware of the link, dear reader, and really don't require more witticisms about Bungle or Zippy ... and definitely not George!

Anyway, the Jeffrey in that show was in fact a Geoffrey ... which brings me by a rather scenic route to what I was going to write about

In the circumstances (I still have a cold ... oh woe is me ... oh me oh my and so on ad nauseam) it was reasonably natural for my mind to recall a phrase that may be familiar to some: "Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell".

Jeffrey Bernard was nominally a columnist with a weekly piece under the title of "Low Life" appearing in The Spectator magazine. His great loves were probably alcohol, smoking, alcohol, horse-racing, alcohol and gambling ... with, perhaps, a greater emphasis on alcohol than I have suggested. His pieces, though, we usually self-effacing and rather more sentimental than you might expect from that description. He also found the female of the species highly confusing, something I can well sympathise with.

Anyway, a heavy drinker he was. To all intents and purposes he drank himself to death by the age of 65, a wit surrounded by many loving friends. The heavy drinking frequently led to missed deadlines and The Spectator used to euphemistically state where his column should have appeared that "Jeffrey Bernard is unwell".

This phrase became, in all likelihood, more famous than the man himself or his writing! One of his drinking buddies, Keith Waterhouse, used it as the title of a very successful play about Jeffrey (who was played in the most famous version by Peter O'Toole, another famous drinker who was also one of Mr Bernard's buddies).

As a little detour it is perhaps worth noting that, in time, "is unwell" became another one of those euphemistic terms meaning "is pissed out of his skull" alongside Private Eye's "is tired and emotional".

Anyway, the point is that the cause may be different in my case but it is definitely fair to say that "TQG is unwell" ... and when you see that statement you will realise that it means that there will be no new blog entry for today, won't you?

Playful ISN'T Feeling So Playful Any More...

It is with some sadness and much disapointment that I am writing this post to inform you that I WILL NO LONGER BE COORDINATING THE UPCOMING BLOGGER'S CONVENTION; nor at this time do I have intentions of attending it as well.(due to personality conflict)

Do NOT send any more checks to REED ENTERPRISES!

If you have sent in a check for the Masked Ball I will return it promptly.

I have emailed individuals regarding transportation, rideshares/roomshares--trying not to leave anything dangling. If I have caused you any inconvenience...I apologize.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you have a fun filled trip to the Blogger's Convention.

Unwell and ailing yet still able to ramble on about his historical reasoning behind the post so that all his loyal readers know where to find and can rest assured that his "unwell" title does not lead us believe that he has been carted off to an asylum doning the ever lovely white straight jacket. I am glad to hear that you are going to be well rested adn taking care of yourself. Please get better soon. I am hoping that you are taking some much needed R&R in the comforts of your own bed and not in the confines of some frightening padded room as the term "Unwell" may have earlier suggested.
Take Care

Wow... for a sick guy, you sure managed to string a rather long blog together!! As for a cold bed and a hot woman... I think that hot toddie sounds better. I don't know any hot women

SDA ... I didn't say I wasn't in a padded room too! Even inmates at hospitals for the confused and terminally disoriented can get colds

JJ ... Thanks for the wishes

Raptor ... Erm ... the last paragraph was the point of the whole piece, sir, as I'm sure you realise! As for the editing ... well, yes, it would have had some edits if this site of ours hadn't decided to make editing impossible!

Helga ... Of course, as I am well aware, a long blog is not necessarily the same as a worthwhile blog I can well understand that you'd rather have a hot toddy than a hot woman and I'm afraid I don't know if the cure works with a hot man (and I'm definitely not going to try to find out! As for hot women, I know quite a few of them ... but so far none of them have offered to make the journey

So are you saying a cold is an euphemism for the mother of all hangovers?

At least you didn't mention Geoff from The Wiggles.

MissAnn ... I suspect that many a person with a hangover has called in work to say (or perhaps whisper) "I hab an awful code". As for the Wiggles, I'm pleased to report that to the best of my knowledge they haven't made a huge impact here

Erik ... Kind of you to say so ... I've been missing you guys too

Slightly_Sexy ... Getting there ... definitely getting there. I don't feel quite like a member of the living dead now!

I have a sneaking suspicion that we may well hear TGG is unwell when it comes to time for the Sunshine Strippers to perform - [post102273]

EE ... Yep, unwell. I'm glad to say I think I'm past the worst of it now though.
