Did you ever try to ride a bicycle with square wheels ?

My rear wheel on my bicycle is fucked.

I noticed recently that spokes have been breaking on my rear wheel. And when even one spoke breaks, it puts more strain on the other spokes. If too many break, the wheel bends.

I guess I rode this bike a little rough and I am not the lightest guy.

I took the wheel off the bike....got dirty...saved my tire and tube and assorted nuts.

Then I went to my local bike shop and I asked him for a wheel. I dont need a new wheel. I just need something to last me for a couple of months. After that, in the spring, I want to get a new bike. He quoted me a price that was unacceptable to me.

If I dont get a wheel for the price I want to pay, I will do without it. I may be able to buy a whole bike for cheaper than the quote he gave to me.

It is the end of summer anyways here.

So.... is it a 'decent' hub?
You do have another option, and that's to respoke the hub and attach an unbent rim.... it's far to expensive to have someone else do it for you, but if you have some patience, it can be an amusing project. You just buy a bag of spokes and a spoke key, and go about tweaking them until it spins freely. C'mon... you might enjoy it.. and I'd be willing to be you could buy the parts via the internet at a pretty cheap price.

Yea yea.... used to have a bike fetish of my own... I was lucky though, my main squeeze at the time loved doing little projects like this... could have done it myself I suppose.. but it was much more fun being 'serviced'... lmao. good luck -v

i'm just imagining how bumpy the ride would be for the guy in the pic.

i had a friend at work go out and buy a bike for $350. is that the going rate for a bike these days?
When researching this story, I found out some scientists have tested out square wheels on a bicycle.

They modified a track. They found out turning would be a problem. haha

350 dollars ? At wal mart that would be a high priced bike, if they have one in that price range.

If you go to a reputable bike shop you can pay anywhere from 300 to 3000 dollars for a bike.

I am hoping to get lucky.

I have a coworker with an old bike.

Maybe I can take his wheel off when he is not looking haha

I already threw the whole wheel out except for anything I might be able to use in the future.
