Afraid Things Are A Changin

The following lyrics are inspired by my interest in Willie Nelson's hard, rebel life and his music. As I wrote this, I was listening to Willie's well-known song, 'Whiskey River'. Willie had a penchant for good whiskey. I believe he is known to be fond of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Sippin' Whiskey. The last Willie Nelson concert I attended was sponsored by Willie's own brand of whiskey. I'll be darned if I can remember the name of it at the time of this writing.

Now, I don't know if Willie ever wrote a song about the mornin' after drinking lots of beer, but that's what this song is about. I can just see Willie in my mind's eye squinting at some empty beer bottles the mornin' after!

This song is dedicated to all you beer drinkers out there. I hope you never have a mornin' after like the one described in my lyrics! And if you do, don't say I didn't warn ya'! Oh, and Willie, if you're an AdultFriendFinder blogger, and you're readin' my post, please call me at 1.800.CAT.PAWS. Perhaps, we can get together, and I can make you a good deal on the exclusive rights to my new song!

'Woke up this mornin'
Holdin' onto my head.
And when I rolled over,
You were gone from our bed.

And then I remembered
What happened between us.
Our mild disagreement
Flared up to a huge fuss!

Yeah, 'woke up this mornin'.
My life will be changin'!
Oh Lord, please help me!
Afraid things are a changin'!

'Woke up this mornin'.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Afraid things are changin'
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah!

'Woke up this mornin'.
Empty bottles of beer.
I squinted and saw them
Next to our bed so near.

And a small, rolled-up note
Tucked in a bottle neck.
I was scared to read it,
But I thought I'd better check!

Yeah, 'woke up this mornin'.
My life will be changin'!
Oh Lord, please help me!
Afraid things are a changin'!

'Woke up this mornin'.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Afraid things are changin'
Lord, yeah, yeah, yeah!

So, the questions are:

1. Have you ever 'woke up holdin' onto your head?

2. Have you ever 'woke up to a note?

Mag ... I know the hangover experience too. I have never woke up to a note, but I have woke up to a cold, empty bed. Not fun!

My usual fare is Bud Light or Coors Light. I like Becks, Heineken, and Moosehead better but they have more calories!

Not really, Mag! I'm just writing poems about subjects with which, I'm not proud to say, I have much too much familiarity!

I have not drank alcohol in twenty years, but I STILL remember the hangovers. Alka-seltzer's stock price was soaring when I was drinking.

Good for you! I wish I had had enough sense to stop 20 years ago myself. I drink less now. But, it would be best to just quit altogether! Keep it up!

No beer anymore for me, just screwdrivers, and not nearly as many of those anymore. Maturity?? Old-age?? Who knows, but certainly for the better.

We do tend to become wiser with age and maturity.
