Is your computer secure?

One of the topics on Sweet Raven's Nest is computer security...which I'm sure we are ALL concerned with. I don't want any unknown entities spying on my personal information, or the web sites I visit (including this one), and I'm sure most of you feel the same way...nobody's business but ours...right?

Well, I went to a security check site today to check up on my computer, and lo and behold, my Windows Firewall had a leak in it...and I had been trusting it implicitly to protect me. So I downloaded a firewall (FREE, by the way) that was recommended by the security check site (Gibson Research Corporation - recommended by CNET and PC World). Just did a test with my new firewall, and everything is A-OK.

I want to share this information with all of you, just in case you're not as secure as you think you are...

Go check your computer for FREE "Gibson Research Corporation". (Google search)

They have SEVERAL freebie software tools there that you can thoroughly check your computer with. You can either download them to a temporary file and run them straight from the site, or do like I did and set up a FREEWARE file in MY DOCUMENTS to keep the starter files stored (that way you can run checks anytime without having to go to the GRC site.).

The FREE firewall that is recommended by GRC is ZONEALARM. They have a free and a pay-for PRO version there. I just downloaded the freebie, and it works just fine. Go to "ZONE LABS" to download the free version of ZoneAlarm.

ZoneAlarm is a LEARNING firewall, so you'll have to tweak it by disallowing or allowing programs at first. But you won't have to worry about any unknowns accessing your computer, so it's worth the me.

Wishing you all happy and secure browsing...
