Happy 4th

Hi All,

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day. What a great country this is and I'm so glad I was born here. I get to travel a lot and have seen some pretty horrid ways to live (like the lake people on the Tonle Sap). There was a CNN poll last week about Flag burning and I sent in a comment, that was naturally not posted, but it went something like this: I absolutely support a person's right to burn the flag as an expression of free speech. But I also think that for every flag a person burns, they should spend a year in a garden spot like Saudi Arabia, Sudan, or Nigeria. Then once they returned we could have an open and refreshing dialogue about freedom and diversity. I'm an atheist, but God Bless America.

Anywho, today I celebrate the bounty of Costco, clean running water, the gays who live next door, the meat aisle in Central Market, the fact that when I get upset, I might flip someone the bird or mutter 'you bastard' under my breath, but I don't strap explosives to my chest and blow up women and children. I celebrate my goofy dog, the right to wear a bikini in public (maybe not so good), my blue passport and the fact that I get to pay taxes and vote in this Great Nation.

Yup America is a great place, not perfect we all still need to work to make America better, but America is still better than a lot of other places.

Hi Dear. Thanks for your comment. I was talking to a lawyer a while back who had some some work in Nigeria. And he said that the car in front of him was run off the road, a fellow was yanked out, doused in gasoline and then set on fire. Of course, stopping to help was not an option, even when he was in a convoy of sorts that was similarly loaded with weaponry. What a fucking nightmare to live like that. The whiners in this country have NO clue what is going on in the world around us.

BTW - I have never been able to shop at Costco and leave without spending at least 100 clams. LOVE that place.

Take it from someone whose family fled to this great country from an oppressive communist dictatorship with whatever we could stuff in our suitcases and were left with after the search. Years later, an extended stay in Europe left me itching to get back, after experiencing first hand how much those governments try to monitor, control, and tax you. Our neighbors to the north and south? Been there, done that...gracias, pero NO.

Color me red, white, and blue.
