The ways we are

I find it interesting that the word gay tends to be used far more for men than women. Men are gay women are lesbians. Any idea why that is?

How close is too close? I have a friend, who is a girl. She is the four year girlfriend of one of my best friends whi I have known since I was six. I even had a significant relationship with the girls sister. Now the issue arises in the fact that I'm one of her closest friends. She talks about all kinds of things including things about her relationship. Now in theory that shouldn't be a problem but if she's unhappy do I deal with it by talking to the boyfriend? So I leave for her to deal with? Do I even ask her about it? Odd situation.

If she's unhappy it's up to her to deal with her boyfriend, unless she explicitly ASKS you to communicate with him on her behalf or he is a violent abuser.
You are her confidant. What she tells you about her boyfriend should stay with you.
