Cunt! A celebration!

Okay, I will admit - I watched the Vagina Monologues and I even cheered at the Cunt speech. I mean, seriously - its a sexy word and to embrace the sensuality of it takes away any negative connotations.

However, from an etymology standpoint, it is on slippery ground. As Ruth Wajnryb admits in A Cunt Of A Word: "Etymologists are unlikely to come to an agreement about the origins of CUNT any time soon." There are a number of locations on the net discussing what they believe to be the "real" origin...but these all become circular and eventually come to the real scholarly research (Can you imagine doing scholoarly research on this word? How do you bring it up to your dissertation committee?). Anyway, the scholarly research finds many possible avenues for the source of the word so any one that is postulated is as good as any other, really.

So unfortunately, I'm unable to really produce a solid example of where this word comes from. So, why not celebrate it as coming from many sources! After all, cunts are as different as each woman - so it is fitting and appropriate for the source of the word to be as inscrutable as a "one size fits all" way of pleasuring them!

As for me, I love the word cunt. It is so much more honest and real than "pussy." And I've never been a cat lover, anyway - so the feline connotation doesn't excite me at all.
