Friday Night Entertainment

It's Friday night and I’m staying home.
I'm doing this for several reasons.

1. I have to be awake extremely early tomorrow morning for work.

2. Money is tight, my sons needs have laid claim to my discretionary income. So instead of going out and blowing Money, I chose to stay home and find cheap entertainment.

Needless to say, when left to my own devices, I can entertain myself. I'm fond of playing a game called Realm Online.

Realm Online is an older multiplayer (MMORPG) Dungeons and Dragons based role playing game, similar to Everquest, Worlds of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, RuneScape and a dozen others of the same genre.

Basically you create a character and go kill monsters and explore dungeons, the more monsters you kill the more powerful your character becomes and the bigger monsters and harder dungeons you can play in. It's a lot of fun until your character reaches the zenith of its capabilities. The it starts to get boring. You've explored everything you can explore. And killed everything you can kill.

My character has reached this point. I still love the game, but it's lost its thrill. I could start over with a new character, but instead I have found a new means of entertainment.

I disguise my character to look like some of the more human-looking monsters of the game. I then go hang out where those monsters can be found.

Other players come by and try to fight with me thinking I am a monster they are hunting. The laugh comes from acting in a way such a monster absolutely wont.

For example, one of the monsters is called an Evil Minion. He looks like a warrior/knight in black armor. It's a fairly easy costume to duplicate. Players come along and cast the Defenselessness spell as a prelude to combat. Were I really an Evil Minion, combat would start. Instead I cast Defenselessness back on them. I usually see "what the hell?" in the rooms chat tab.

There’s another very difficult area of the game called The Maze, disguising my character as one of the monsters in there, that aren't found anywhere else but in the maze, I walk around outside. This confuses a great many players.

Monsters also cannot enter the town areas, but players can. These areas are a refuge from the dangers of hunting. You can sell your gathered treasures there, and tend to your characters maintaince needs. It's also rather amusing to follow other characters as they enter the towns. Once again surprising them when they see a monster following them where a monster isn't allowed to go.

Ahh yes, the things I do to amuse myself...
