Dinner and a Floor Show

The highly-vaulted scallops from Friday.

I should explain something: I am from the mid-west. Little itty bitty farm towns in the mid-west. My parents moved us around a great deal, but as they were both from itty bitty farm towns in the mid-west, that conditioning stayed with us.

One of the downsides to having parents from itty bitty farm towns in the mid-west is we don't really get seafood, or at least in the 70s we didn't, unless it came in breaded square form. I think that's why my mom totally sucked at cooking seafood.

To this day, I eshew fish and pretty much anything with scales. Shells are okay, but are still suspect as having grown up in an environment completely unlike central Illinois. Until recently, I didn't even know what a scallop *was*, aside from a kind of sea critter.

I have to say though, and this is in now way an attempt to suck up or otherwise puff up the ego of the chef, these were freaking fabulous. I don't really eat much at all, and I finished at least half of this overflowing plate of garlicky goodness.

I should add that the dinner entertainment -- the chef singing along with and dancing in his seat to "Rub You the Right Way" by Johnny Gill -- was also fascinating.

To sum up:
Presentation: A
Garlicky Goodness: A+
Floor Show: B+ (the costume wasn't skimpy enough)
