What a screw up.

Yesterday, I set out to install the two new garage doors I had bought over a month ago.. I finally had the time to do it. Now, as I'm a self employed carpenter, I had taken everything into consideration as to what was needed and had ordered the doors through Lowe's. I told them I needed two 7' by 9' garages doors.. I also told them that I only have 9" of head room and I would be needing a low angle extension kit for both doors. Most new homes with garages have 12" or more and that is the standard for which garage doors are manufactured. Now being that these are a special order purchase, I had to wait two weeks for the doors. Two weeks go by and I get the call that my doors are in. I pick them up and I'm told that everything I need is in the package and so I load everything into my truck and take it home. I stash everything in the garage until I can get to it at a latter date....Now, I'm on vacation and have the time to install the garage doors. so I set out yesterday by removing one of the old doors first and start installing the new one..Now this is my first garage door that I have ever installed. I usually like to practice on my house before ever doing it on a job..New things usually take longer to do because your always looking at instructions while your doing it. I get the two side rails in, assemble the door and put it in place... Now it's time to put in the top rail...I start looking for the low angle extension kit that was supposed to be in the box.....Hmmm WTF.. its not there... so I call Lowe's and talk to a different sales guy who pules up my order and proceeds to tell me that the low angle extension kit doesn't come with the doors, it has to be ordered separately......which is fine, doesn't matter to me.. I told him, when I ordered the doors, I specifically stated that I would "need the low angle extension kit". He checks into it, apologizes and tells me they were never ordered and that it will take 7 to 10 days for them to come in. In addition, it is going to cost $150.00 extra for the two kits. Now, when the parts do come in, I will no longer be on vacation and I'll will have to install them when I have the time. If this had been on one of my jobs, It would have been an inconvenience to me as well as my customer. If I screw up on the job, I am held responsible for it and it comes out of my pocket. It's funny how they don't feel obligated for my inconvenience.

Whatever happened to "The Customer is always right"? I would have the kits at my house sooner and at no extra cost!!! But, hey, that is just me!

Good Luck with those doors!!!

Freetime... In the good ole USA everything is practically owned my big business... they don't care about customer service... they don't even train they're employee's in customer service.. If you want good customer service you have to find a Mom and Pop store who has to keep the customers happy. If they lose they're customer base. they lose they're business... These franchise stores don't worry about that..They sell an inferior product at a low price and most people think they're getting a bargain. In reality they are getting...>>!
