My Landlord

My landlord is a 30-something guy who looks great whether he is straight from work in scrubs or unshaven in jeans. (He has a great butt!) Anyway, my roommate came home for lunch the other day and was shocked to see a notice from the East Ohio Dominion Gas Company on our outside door. The notice informed us that our landlord had not been paying his share of the natural gas bill, and in 10 days if he doesn't pay it, they will turn off all our gas. The natural cooking gas we pay for will not be included in this as my roommate was informed when he called the gas company because those accounts are seperate from the gas that heats the building and/or hot water boilers. The landlord when my roommate called and informed him of this, asked him to take down the sign. (Big shocker there!) Greg was already on his way back to work and told him so and that even if he was home that he wouldn't because everyone deserved to see their screw-up. This was about 1pm yesterday. I got the message after classes on Monday about 2:30pm and got home at about 3:30pm to find no notice on the door. You can bet your ass they ran right over and ripped that thing off the door! I am curious to see how this will be handled. There have been numerous things that this landlord has been bad with: noise complaints (my neighbors), pet complaints (my neighbors), ice in the winter, security doors not latching, the garage door not closing, and so on. I however love, and I mean LOVE the space I live in. I know Greg will be moving on after our lease is up in August, but I am eager to stay in the apartment I am in (provided I get another roommate). I don't want to move again, 3x's in 3 years, yuck! I am thinking though, that I would sit down and have some serious discussion regarding re-signing my lease. I am a tenant, and I pay good hard-earned money to live here. I know for them this is a side job, but this is my home we are talking about! So much on-going drama in this aspect of my life, and this is the only area where I have even a little excitement right now! So much drama, and normally I have a lot of patience, but it is starting to wear through at a rapid rate.

Do you have a "Tenant's Union" in your state? Check it shouldn't have to put up with this...{=}

Hey Redheaded... here is a website that should help. It is located at the lakewood website and provides a good overview of landlord/tenant law
