Time management

Today was good, managed to squeeze time out and visit the Wallace Collection before heading home. I collect ceramics and I've never had time to view the Sèvres pieces in reality. My grandmother had a taste for it and when I was small she'd show me each piece and tell me stories of the figures in the vignettes. It was a key experience of my childhood, touching things that were made when Versailles was in its heyday and hearing about their history.

I struck lucky today as the current exhibition is of contemporary porcelains commissioned by Sèvres. Wasn't too thrilled by most of the work; it wasn't bad but had no passion and little in the way of design to interest. It reminded me of masspro pottery in department stores.

Still, it was pleasant to wander back in time through cool gold-crusted rooms for a little before heading home. I have to say, I could never live in London again - did it once, that was enough. Visit? definitely. Live? never.

I'm lucky that we're in a position to live anywhere we choose
