Happy NZ Music Month!

Today is the first day of "New Zealand Music Month". The month of May has been dedicated to NZ music since 2001.

The radio stations play more kiwi stuff, there are loads of concerts and last year Kiwi FM was launched, a radio station that would only play NZ music. I thought it would be great to have a station dedicated to NZ music only, but they took over the frequency of a popular radio station, causing some people to hate it because of that, plus they didn't play the right sort of NZ music. Well thats what I hear lol, I've never really listened to it cos we don't get it in Hamilton. So now they are either doing a huge restructure of it, or they are giving up on the whole idea!

I used to always get called a "groupie" because I was always at concerts and gigs and always talking about music. So when T started dating a radio dj and getting into music I kinda gave up on it because everytime I said something she would argue with me as if I had no idea what I was talking about.

I even went to the Big Day Out dressed as a Cheerleader with "Blindspott" across my back. At a concert a few months later they dedicated a song to me and my friend

So this month I will probably do nothing to celebrate it.

My fave NZ Music Month was 2 years ago when my friend and I went up to Auckland for a "Play it Strange" promotion, which was a 24 hour long concert of NZ artists. They even had a school ukilale (don't know how to spell that lol) band at about 7am who were soo cute! There were 3 different concerts, and they would play a few songs from each band live on TV for the whole 24 hours. So I was on TV a few times that night and got lots of texts from people saying they saw me lol.

That was also the first night I had taken a "party pill" - the legal herbal type. I've never had any sort of drugs before and it was sooo weird lol. I had been sitting down talking to my friend and I was talking non stop then got up and my legs felt as if they were moving by themself and not part of me. Weird.

So to all you kiwis out there, I hope you have a good NZ Music Month and try to go see at least one kiwi band or buy a CD! I think I will have to buy at least one CD, probably more like 5 haha.

And for you nonkiwis out there, try to find some good kiwi music and have a listen! There are so many great bands, but it is so hard for bands for lil old NZ to break into the UK and US markets!

Yep go Kiwi Music.

I've been a fan for ages, but you know all the goodies like the Bats and the Fits... the Chills... all pretty much gone now.

Still there are always tons of good ones coming out of the woodwork. We're lucky in that regard.

Check out dDub next time, one of my mates is their manager and they're really good.

Oh and pfffft for sneaking into Auckland too!

It's a collection of high pitches screeches and squawks.

or collectively it's what NZ bands produce

There are a lot of good kiwi bands out there its a shame they can't seem to break into the UK market but I'm still able to download some kiwi music from time to time. Shhh don't tell thats how I got The feelers, Goldenhorse, mutton birds, che fu, shihad, scribe, p-money, katchafire...damn I could go on. I really need to get back there so I can catch up on the new bands that are coming out.
