Random Musings I

I've been watching a lot of movies lately. Gotta love Netflix and having nothing to do. So, what have we had:

X-Men III: Overall, pretty good; if you liked the first two, you'll probably like this. If you didn't like the first two, or just don't like comic book movies, avoid it. It has one huge, gigantic flaw, but is fun nonetheless.

Mystic River: When the hell did Sean Penn become a good actor? Between this and The Interpreter last year, he's now fabulous. Good performances by the whole cast, a tight script. Outstanding movie. It forms part of a Violence Trilogy from Clint Eastwood, along with Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby. There's less blood in this one, but the violence is, if anything, even more intense.

Bewitched: It's cute, and somewhat amusing, but don't go out of your way to see it, because it's also nothing special. I have a thing for Nicole Kidman, so it was worth it for me, but probably not for anyone who doesn't have a thing for her. Or, I suppose, a thing for Will Ferrell, but I have trouble picturing that.

The Stepford Wives: As I said above, I have a thing for Nicole Kidman. I also have a thing for mind control. So, I figured, there's no way that a movie with a mind controlled Nicole Kidman could be that bad. I was wrong; it is that bad. It's probably worse. Good god, it's awful.

The House of Sand and Fog: Slow moving, and it takes a long time to develop. Nothing much happens. However, if you like character studies and dramatic movies in which the plot is not the point, don't stop watching. The last half hour is incredible. Ben Kingsley and Shohreh Aghdashloo are fantastic as married Iranian exiles, and Jennifer Connolly just as good as the woman whose house they bought after it was seized. Granted, I also have a thing for Jennifer Connolly, but I didnt even realize she was in it until I saw the opening credits.

Next Up: Miller's Crossing, Hotel Rwanda, Once Upon a Time in the West, Cold Mountain and Dodgeball

I enjoyed the first 2 X-men movies, can't wait to see the 3rd one. If I can ever have time to go and find someone to go with me. lol. I don't have a "thing" for Nicole Kidman, I thought Bewitched was cute. I was also glad I waited for both to come out on DVD and renting it rather than going to the theaters or buying them. Mystic River was awesome! Who knew Sean Penn was that good of an actor since his Fast Times at Ridgemont High days???? lol. I haven't seen the others, except Cold Mountain. I think you will really enjoy that one, especially since you have a thing for Nicole Kidman.

Pity I'm not in Missouri, because I'd be happy to see X-Men III again. Sorry.

Since you are into Nichole, can you figure out what her thinking is when she selects her movies? She seems to alternate between one fantastic movie and then one bomb. What gives?

Hey, great blog. I'll be back to check out more of your blogs. You are also invited to pay a visit to my site (leave a comment so i know you visited).

I've been a fan of Sean Penn for quite awhile. You might want to check out the films he's directed, they are amazing. Indian Runner and Crossing Guard are mighty powerful.

I might check them out, though they would currently be entries #74 and #75 in my Netflix queue.

Did I mention that I love Netflix?
