I know some will be sorely disappointed, but it's likely that I won't be able to post a blog next week. My dad will be visiting with us, and it's hard to be thoughtful and post quickly here.

On the other hand, he's been single for over a year now (he's a widower, not a divorcee), hmmm.

On yet another hand, I can't imagine playing matchmaker for my dad. And how would I explain to him where I found him a date???

Nah, life is interesting enough without trying to get my dad hooked up.

In a completely different direction: today's picture is of Haystack Rock from Cannon Beach, Oregon. At 235 feet tall, it's supposed to be the third tallest coastal monolith in the world. Whatever. It's cool to see, though.

Cannon beach is one of those beaches where the slope into the ocean is very very gradual. So, when a wave fully crashes and comes in (every 7th or something like that? there's supposed to be a pattern, but i haven't paid enough attention yet), the water moves up the beach like 40 or 50 feet. It's only a very few inches deep, though.

The water then slowly retreats, leaving the sand shallowly covered (more like saturated) in water (a fraction of an inch). That's what the foreground is in the pic; a very shallow coating of pacific ocean over the sandy beach.

More pics later of this beach.
