I need to give credit where credit is due and I got the idea to share my stories from Keithcancook's blog entry about some pranks he played in college.

My sophomore year of college in the dorms a majority of us knew each other from the previous year and were a fairly tight knit group amongst ourselves and the men's floor below us. We were excited about the incoming freshmen coming in and joining our little family. Beforehand we had decided to make sure they knew where everything was and felt comfortable and that they had friends because for a lot of people it is scary and lonely being away from home for the first time. It worked out great and we had a blast with our new "sisters" Well.... Except for one girl. She came in with an attitude and from the start was rude and argumentative. She refused attending any parties, nights out, or seeing movies with any of us. 3 girls on our floor were engaged and 2 of them were having trouble and spent a lot of time on the phone in the hall at night working things out with their respective fiancees. Beth ( not her real name ) started listening in on their conversations and spread vicious rumors about them. She'd linger outside of people's doors and eavesdrop only to mess up stories and cause problems between people. Our little happy floor family evaporated quickly with squabbles over total lies and one of the girls ended up loosing her fiancee over a rumor.

My roommate and I decided enough was enough. We confronted her and told her to knock it off. She laughed and told us where to go. Our R.A couldn't do anything about it. I decided we were going to make her leave by making life difficult.

People are creatures of habit and stick to a routine for the most part and I started closely watching her. I kept a close eye on her for a week and had my roommate do the same because I was gone a lot with soccer season being in full swing. I noticed one morning that she has terrible eye sight and would grab her shower tote and feel her way down the hall as blind as a bat. She'd come close to running into people emerging from their rooms and come close to tripping a few times.... One night bought some clear packing tape and completely covered her door from top to bottom. The following morning she opened the door only to get her face and hair stuck in the tape. We laughed like lunatics as she struggled like a fly trapped on fly paper to free herself pulling down all the tape and eventually falling on the floor.

The following night my roommate emptied the giant garbage can in the bathroom as I picked the lock of the custodian's closet. I pulled the base off of a wheeled garbage can and we put the larger square can on it and filled it with the hose. After wheeling it down the hall to Beth's room we tilted it so it was resting on the door. I got back just in time from morning practice to see her door open, the can tip, and water rush all over her and her room

On the third day I sweet talked the custodian into using his master key to let me into her room in the middle of the afternoon. It wasn't hard because she was always really rude to him and made fun of him.. My roommate met up with me a few minutes later to help me tie little nooses for every single stuffed animal she owned. Once every critter had one I used a step ladder to staple each noose to the ceiling. As sick and twisted as it was we giggled the whole time and I still find it hilarious

The forth day is what broke her... We penny-locked her in her room after paying a visit to the front desk. As my roommate chatted with the guy at the front desk I disconnected the phone. I just pulled the plug far enough out so the phone didn't work then taped it so it stayed in place. Beth tried calling the front desk repeatedly when she woke up to have someone let her out. When that didn't work she pounded on the door and begged for someone to help her out. No one stopped and I watched as people walked past her door smiling as Beth yelled her lungs out. That evening she formally requested a transfer to a different dorm and our R.A sped up the process to get her out A.S.A.P.

As cruel as it was something had to be done to get her out of there because she could not be reasoned with. She alone nearly destroyed the bonds we had on the floor and ended one great girl's relationship.

My last year of coaching high school soccer I found out my assistant coach was totally afraid of spiders. During a practice I asked him to get more equipment from the shed and froze when I heard him screaming and watched as he ran out in a panic dancing around. I ran from the field to see if he was okay only to have him point and scream in a high pitched voice, "OH MY GOD IT'S HUGE! AHHHH!!! SPIDER!!" I was expecting something hairy and scary, but no... It was a daddy long legs.

He pulled a prank on me by stealing my keys when I was in a meeting then driving my SUV into the middle of a corn field over a mile away. It was funny and he drove me out to get it back. I swore I'd get him back and he told me I'd never get him.

LOL! He was so wrong!! I went shopping all over trying to find a lifelike looking toy tarantula and bought it after hitting over 8 stores. I got to practice early and put it on a ball bag then closed and locked the storage shed. I figured the best thing to do was to show up a little late so I chatted with a few teachers and coaches I knew and got out right as it was supposed to start. I got the players into their warm-up and asked my assistant to get the balls. He opened the door, walked in, and didn't come back out. I waited for what seemed like a few minutes before checking on him. As I got closer I realized I didn't hear anything and I got scared thinking I may have caused him to have a heart attack with my stupid revenge prank.

As I peered into the barn he was standing looking at the fake spider frozen in fear. I quickly put my hand on his shoulder and before I could say anything he spun around and punched me in the face. I staggered a few steps backwards because it came as a surprise! What I didn't realize was the athletic director had driven up on a golf cart and saw him hit me. She bellowed, "What the h*ll are you doing!?" I stopped her as she ran at him. "It was a joke. The spider is fake and he didn't mean it. It's all my fault." He cracked a smile and said he was sorry. She was angry and yelled,"That doesn't mean he sould punch you. I'm going to have to fire you because I don't allow that in my department." I was upset, "NO! NO! NO! You can't fire him! I scared him and it was just a reaction, he didn't mean it. It's all my fault. Fire me." He looked like he was about to cry. She was pissed,"You're fired. I don't care, you punched her in the face." The players had gathered around us and I was angry and feeling very guilty. "No, you fire him and I quit. He apologised and I accept it. Only us 3 saw it happen and if you push we'll deny everything." She stormed off after saying, "Fine!"

We got the kids engaged in practice and he called the trainer and had them bring out ice for my face. We sat on the golf cart together and he held the ice on me as we ran the kids through drills. He apoligised every day for a week and I said I was sorry about the spider every time he said it.

I've played so many pranks in my life because they are a blast! They aren't mean like the ones I wrote about in the dorm, but they are silly and I love making my friends, co-workers, and family laugh. I haven't pulled anything since getting hit in the face... I guess you can say I am a litttle hesitant

It is sad to say that even the well meaning pranks can turn bad.

I have one that luckily didn't turn out bad, but it could have. I was in high school and working in the stockroom of a clothing store. There was an older guy, ohh about late 60s, who basically cleaned the store. We had learned his habits and one day decided to surprise him. We had found a dead mouse and left it on top of the boxes he was working on. On schedule, he made his way to the boxes, going through his routine. All of a sudden, he noticed the mouse and must have jumped about 4 feet. Luckily, nothing happened. But looking back at that, I dont think it was such a great idea.

Great story. A simple, relatively harmless prank that we play on unsuspecting co-workers - tape the buttons down that disconnect a desktop model phone with clear tape..then give the person a call. Phoen keeps ringing after they pick it up..I guess we get pretty bored at work....

Keith...I fully EXPECT her to prank me... but therein lies the rub...

Once you girls knew Beth's modus operandi you could have kept her at a distance and not been affected by her. I guess it looks a bit like payback, rather than a need to be rid of her...but you were there...

hun that reminds me that we used to penny in one of the golfers in the athletic dorm at school... he was a real nerdy guy.
Of course I am remorseful that I ever had anything to do with that...
