sad reminisce

So someone asked me today what the best date I ever had was...

This person knows who she is (although she doesn't come to this site), and what I say is true, especially the end.

I'd have to say the best date I had turned 180 degrees. I was fresh out of highschool (summer after) and ran into this girl I used to chase all through highschool. She had a boyfriend who was in the military and always gone; I was friends with the guy.. Well I'll just say I had nothing against him.

Anyway, we sat and talked and stuff. I could see the sparkle in her eye, as I'm sure she could have seen the sparkle in mine. I asked if I could take her on a friendly date sometime that week. She said sure, but she was still with Kevin and would talk to him about it.

He said sure, so I picked her up from her house later that week. It was completely pleutonic, no hand holding or anything, just 2 friends together. On our way to Orange Park, FL, we passed a few businesses on hwy 17 that we made jokes about and stuff. We ate at Red Lobster and then went to the OP mall and watched a movie (don't recall what it was). It was dark and we had flipped up the arm rest between us so we could be more comfortable.

I moved my arm to do something and I grazed across her upper thigh (she was wearing a skirt) and I apologized and she smiled and said it was ok, and grabbed my hand to hold it. I was a little confused at the time, but I went along. Later on in the movie, the sly little fox, she worked her way sidways until she was laying against me.

After the movie we were arm and arm back to the truck to go back to town to take her home. We made more jokes about those businesses and you could tell we were getting a little more physical/touchy-feely.

Anyway, skip ahead. When we got back to her road, she pulled out these breath mints and asked if I wanted one, I said no. I waited a few seconds and said that I would like one of those mints. She reached for her purse and I said no, I'd like the one you already have out.

She giggled and spoke as if she was very interested, but never said no. Anyway, we pull up in her driveway and talked a little. I did have respect for her boyfriend Kevin, but I couldn't help it; I was crazy for this girl, always had been. I told her something to the effect of "I am not trying to start something, because I know you have a boyfriend, but I aim to get that mint." and we shared our very first kiss. My blood pressure jumped up 50x.

For other reasons, she soon left her boyfriend and we became official. Over the 3 years we were together we still made the same jokes about the businesses we passed on our first date. We are separated now (about 2.5 years ago now) and I am still crazy for that girl. I would go back to her in a heartbeat. Everytime I pass those businesses, I cant help but think of her.
