End of year exam blues

Yup, it's finally happened; my final exams are now looming just over the horizon and, in true student fashion, I've turned into the Great Procrastinator.

Yes, that's right, me who manages to juggle my time to fit my studies into my hectic, erm, shall we say, social life, has, to badly steal a line from the late Douglas Adams, hit the long, dark revision leave of the soul.

So, with my first exam less than two weeks away, what have I been doing?

First of all, I drew up a revision plan, then I revised it, decided it wasn't quite right so made myself a coffee to savour while I thought about it a bit more, redrew it and then decided, feck it, I'm not going to use it anyway and threw it in the bin.

Then, I decided my room needed a good clean. Dusted surfaces that haven't seen the light of day since I moved in two years ago, hoovered under the bed, changed the bed linen, decided I'd missed a bit while hoovering then had another coffee.

Next came the bathroom; it now gleams. Then the kitchen. I even defrosted the fridge and washed the floor. Had another coffee, smoked a few cigarettes.

Decided I should get on with some real work. Agonised over which text book or folder of notes I should start with. Another cigarette, another coffee, a bar of Galaxy, decided I'd leave it and start afresh after lunch.

Finally, actually managed to pick up a book about 2pm; actually read the first chapter, decided needed some music in background to help me relax. Agonised for almost 10 minutes before choosing a CD, made myself another coffee, had another cigarette, decided the ashtray really needed emptying and, oh my god, look at that pile of ironing...

You can see the pattern emerging here, I'm sure. It's probably just as well that Kimi has already been neutered or I'd be booking her in for an appointment with the vet (probably one in Belfast, or maybe Armagh).

In the end, decided I was just too stressed to cope with it today and went out to meet up with some friends where we spent the best part of the afternoon consoling each other with the fact that none of us had actually got any real work done.

I can tell this is going to be a long, long month...

Ho hum, I'll leave it there for now but I get the feeling that this blog could become a regular distraction over the next few weeks if I don't get myself back into my usual disciplined way of doing things.

Aaaarrrggghhhh!!!!!

Good luck with your exams! Now that you have cleaned up the house, it is time to start inviting people over again-great way to waste even more time...!

Oh God I remember the days. When Mr. L was doing his Masters he spent a month tidying his room, house, car, other peoples houses!. Then theres the phenomena of going for a walk, coming back, opening a book, closing it, time for another walk. I'll just get a drink and then down to, maybe just a snack, maybe..

Don't feel bad because everyone does it (don't do today what you can put off till tomorrow). Those who don't (who have assignments handed in days before deadlines) are generally loathed by normal folk like us (using the term loosely).

I am working in a University and always telling students not to out things off and just knuckle down and do the work. Then I have to write a paper and its off to AdultFriendFinder to read some bloggs..... ok so I'm a hypocrite but I least I accept it.

I tend to prefer, why put off until tomorrow what you can postpone indefinately?

Pull yerself together... what was Lance Armstrong once said... 'Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever'

A couple o weeks work and a lifetimes career of cells, tissues, and organisms beckons! Actually you're right...feck it.. throw the towel in... professional procrastination with the odd threesome thrown in for good measure sounds like a much more 'all-consuming' option!
