If a tree fell in the middle of the forest ...

Hi everyone... I know, I know...

"You don't write, you don't call!"...

I've been away! For good reasons of course, but have just been taking a bit of a break, enjoying my non-blog related life a bit. Plus I'm coming up on graduation, board exams, moving, packing, getting married (yay!) and it's been very hectic. I just got back from spending two weeks in New Zealand with Bulging_Boy Bulge and the kids. Came back with a sparkly ring on my left hand, had to post new pics that show it off.

And Guess what else?? The kids learned to flush!!!!! Well, at least most of the time...

Well, I came wandering on because I heard that Bardicman and travelingintexas made the "Men of Blogville" Calendar and I was hoping for some free nakkie pics (rats, no dice), and then I smiled when I saw my man on there too [even with having no posts in a month! Pretty impressive babe!].

Plus Bulge's internet connection has been temporarily, yet tragically, impaired by a wayward router (bastard thing!). So I figured I'd come say hi to some other friends while I try to manage my acute Skype withdrawal.

While familiarizing myself with all the amazing changes the site has undergone, I was looking at the most popular posts and saw MZHuny's asking if she "should shut the fuck up". I didn't offer an opinion per se on whether she should, because I don't think my opinion should really matter. I actually responded because I think she asks a valid question. Bard has been urging Bulge and I to come back and blog again, and I have mixed feelings on the subject. The subject always comes back to "Why should I?" and "Why do people blog anyway?"

Do you do it for attention? Validation? For Fun? A Creative Outlet? Pure expression?

If you say that you do it purely for expression and not for other reasons... what if nobody could read your blog? Would you still write? Or is it the inner exhibitionist in you that drives the will to fill the text box with characters?

Is the best part about your exercise the actual writing, or seeing what people will say in response?

Are you the kind of person who posts and moves on, or do you obsessively check how many comments you get?

Do you respond to your comments? If so, is it out of courtesy? Or out of wanting to have a pages of comments on your post?

If a tree fell in the middle of the forest and nobody could hear what you wrote about it, would you still blog it?

I'm sure I won't get many comments on this post because I've been gone like 15 years in Blogville time, but I'm still posting.

Because I feel like it.

And that's pretty much it.

First of all, may I say you look fantastic for a 94 year old!!

Second of all, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tim, my pseudonym is Trigger. I've been blogging since 2002. I am a part of an uber-blog, that we'll just call SE.

I do it because there's just something about making someone laugh across the country, or even on the other side of the world. It's an indescribable feeling seeing a response from a person whom you never met, nor may ever meet, saying that you're funny. Or that you made them think. Or that you touched them.

So I guess that for me, it's an emotional, comedic, insightful exhibition. And that means that I do obsessively check my blog for comments. I do respond to comments made in my blog, not every one, but certain ones, if the comedic effect is there or if a question was raised.

I live in a town where I know maybe 4 people...I have mental disabilities (getting better though) that make it very hard to be around people so I choose to do so electronically...I love to talk...god help those who call me...chatter chatter chatter...also for some attention (who hates that?)...I use it as an outlet on whats going on inside me and in everyday life...I hate journaling...sounds like work...but if I blog it sounds like more fun than work, so I do that and try to not think that it is very similar...blogs are a good way to get to know others so I bounce around reading and commenting on several a day...I lead a boring life right now...I can use all the stimulation (not just sexual)as I can get...I still blog when no one has read any of my current ones....so usually I am complaining in someof them....

Oh thanks! Who would have known the secret to keeping young is a combination of Sauvingnon Blanc and Wendy's chicken nuggets? Shhhhhh.... don't tell anyone. Not until I buy up some vineyards at least.

It is kinda cool how the internet has just completely broadened the opportunties for interaction with people you *never* in a thousand years would have met otherwise. I am biased in that appreciation though bc it's pretty much always brought me good things.

Thanks for the comment...

YAY Jeep! (or should I say "Yaarrrrrr!" pirate?"

Embrace your inner attention whore and celebrate its existance!

The one thing (if you couldnt tell) that irks me bigtime is when people say that they blog only for "creative expression" and "Oh, I don't care how many comments I get" when it's *so* obvious that they do!

I'm sure everyone can use a little more attention these days, and I say good for you for admitting it and getting it how you see fit.

Happy Whoring Jeep!

Gypsy... Good for you. I think you are on the right track. I have battled through issues over the years and my therapists have always assigned "journaling", which always seemed such a chore to me, although it was very helpful in hindsight. But what is a blog other than a journal really? I wouldn't have gotten through it without doing that and to go back now and read some of what I wrote then is helpful.

Good luck with whatever it is that you're working through, and thanks for the congrats... Im nauseatingly happy, if you couldnt tell.. LOL

I blog because I want to. Sometimes just for the hell of it, sometimes to try and get a point across, sometimes to make people laugh. Sometimes I answer comments, sometimes I don't. There're no rules set in stone over at my place.

Welcome back woman.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Anytime Saddletramp!... I will be the "anti-chaperone"; making sure people are being bad instead of good. Maybe Bulge will come back from the grave for a guest appearance to co-chaperone.

I think that's how I am too, Daph... not really any rules. I think it depends on the topic.

I'm not sure I'd say "Im back", but just visiting for today... I'm terribly lonely having just come back from NZ, and with Bulge being offline today. So I wanted to spend the time positively, catching up with you guys. Plus I always like to read some of Bulge's past posts, always good for when I need a laugh and he's not around. I'm trying to let him do some work without my texts to interrupt him.

We'll see what happens... Even if I dont come back to blog fulltime, I'll always read you, Bard, Trav, and the rest of the crew. I tried to comment on as many as possible of my watched list's blogs today... and added some new ones as well!

((((((((((((((((((((A)))))))))))))))))))))))!!! Welcome back, it is so nice to see you again... and sporting such a big rock and an even bigger smile! Congrats on finally wrestling proof-positive from that no-good, sheep-shagging man of yours! (Tell Hobbit-Boy I love him really!)

Me... I blog because I want to blog. If you're daft enough to read it... well, thank you. I do appreciate the comments, but I don't always respond to them. I guess it just depends on whether I want to, or not, or whether I feel a response is required, or not.

Anyway... so nice to see you back, and who knows... perhaps I'll get to hear the immortal "cam the f*** up!" in days to come...

Love ya, and a big hug for that Kiwi bloke you insist on loving! Oh, and a "hedge" to the kids too!

Love, hugs and kisses from ♥♥HH♥♥

Glad that you got the chance to see each other! And welcome back.

As to your questions....I blog first and foremost for myself, it's my journal of sorts. But I do love the feedback, encouragement and insight that people give in their comments. Something about this place makes it easy to share things that are very close to my heart and it is always nice to have people to talk to about such things. Comments? I love to read them and try my best to always respond to them...even if it is just a general "thank you for commenting" to everyone. I always come back to a post to see if the author responded to my comment too.

I blog because I like the interaction with people that are a little more intelligent than who I am around in real life.

ok a lot more.

Plus I have made some damn good friends along the way and guess what Liblonde.. You and your man are at the top of that list.

I miss you guys' presence here. It feels more better right when you are sharing this world with me.

I was so excited when I saw your new post!

Every post is for a different reason - some are to learn about myself (almost journal-like), some are to feed the frustrated newspaper columnist in me, and some are directed specifically at the people I've come to "know" - at least in the way that we all have.

I agree with Bard and the others regarding the interaction - THAT'S my favorite part - the subsequent banter that takes place in the comments. So, yes, I try to reply to all comments, but that's just me. And the bells and whistles make it easier for silver/gold members, I must admit.

Sometimes it's TOO important and I need to back off for awhile, to allow the f2f life to regain center stage. Just did that recently and now it's in proportion and freshly fun again (plus, new bloggers abound).

I tried doing the 360 thing, where the audience was to a very small group of friends (many of them are over here as well), but just didn't stay with it. Not sure why. I think I missed the variety of interraction that we get here.

I need to blog "to" someone. But if ONE person gets it, that's good enough. But the connection to another must be there. Otherwise it's only a public diary.

Hope you choose to stay connected now and then.

Oh, and other thing - I like it because I've managed to avoid almost all of the blog drama. Almost. I'm pretty adamant about that, tho.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Hi Disaster

I don't know what that says... I guess that you're more here more for introspection than for connection? Or both?

There's something about writing in a journal with a pen and paper that I like, but I find intimidating. I think it's the lack of backspace key. But also or some reason I find it more satisfying to look at my words in my own handwriting than to look back on old posts in a generic font. It's like my andwriting is some kind of tattoo that autheticates that it's really something I wrote. Also I guess I can also infer something about my state of mind at the time that I was writing- was it messy and rushed? Was it neat and pretty? Were there lots of cross-outs and revisions? Did I stay within the lines?

I miss my handwriting sometimes....interesting topic...

Anyway, enough of my rambling...Thanks for the visit!

I just started doing that more... not replying so much to people in my comments but replying or commenting on something in *their* blog instead, where I know they'll see it. I think that's a good way to show interest and appreciation in what everyone else has to say.
Too many people are kinda ego-blogcentric and just focus on what's in their posts.. I have been commenting more than posting and find it to be more useful in some ways...

And BTW JFTR, I'm happy you didn't let one random meanie make you "shut the fuck up"; Not because I think you need my "vote" per se, but because you're obviously happy with what comes out of the process for you and that is what is important.

I like freedom in blogging... uncensored conversation, opinion and variety is good to expand everyone's horizons. And makes people less judgemental, more tolerant and more open to different points of view. Which I think a lot of people need, since in F2F or RL, we tend to congregate with people who are mostly just like us...

Thanks for the congrats... I'll pass them on to Bulge.

    Quoting bardicman:

Oh bardy baby...yes you *ARE* the Attention Whore Extraodinaire! Jeep can only hope to grow to your proportion (ego-wise that is). heheh

I know, I miss everyone and so does Bulge. It's just a matter of time and mental energy that we're completely lacking right now. I'm *completely* burnt out from school and the insane financial pressures of graduating (=student loan repayment commences again), relocating overseas, new career, new husband, new stepkids, Bulge's business, weddings... it's just really taking a serious toll on both of us right now. If I hadnt made the surprise trip to NZ two weeks ago, I'm not sure we would have been able to make it trough to June without one or both of us having some sort of serious mental breakdown.

I'm so starved for mental energy that all I can do is scratch and claw my way through the day and crawl home to my laptop, curl up in a ball, and fight to stay awake long enough to spend time online with Bulge and te kids. Mentally coping with the separation is very draining for both of us.

I do not believe that Bulge will be back regularly anytime soon because he has so much on his plate right now, and I'm not sure that I will either. But I do think that I will be back in the future when things get settled, maybe after the July move to chronicle my first months adjusting to life in NZ. Im quite sure there will be *many* mishaps to blog. "Alice in Kiwiland"?

We are always around someplace though... just give a holler from your roof if you need us.

Awwwww thanks! I thought nobody would even notice my little name come up under posts because I've been gone so long... nice to see so many people drop by sending happy good energy... I so need it right now!

I like the interaction too. I'm not sure I would write if I knew nobody would read it, but yet somehow Im surprised when I get comments. I think that when I post, I know that some generic collective "everyone" will be able to read it, but when I get comments back from specific people, it personalizes the process and reminds me that our audience is always made up of real individual people. Sometimes I forget and feel like I'm overexposed after the fact! LOL

Thanks for your input... I really liked it.

Tills! I missed you too!

Thanks for the compliment on the new pics. I did them for Bulge the other morning; I wanted to give him pics of me with no make up, bedhead hair, wearing nothing but my ring. But decided to be brave and put them up on here as well.

I was becoming selfconsious about my former purposely- bad "antisocial/man repellent" pics I had put up to ward off unwanted attention after I swore off AdultFriendFinder dates. (Seriously I think a blonde monkey would probably get 90 emails a day too) Also I don't want everyone to think that handsome Bulge was slumming it marrying some stringy haired, sallow, heroine addict hag from NY. Now I have more accurate, happier pics

Well we thank your therapist then!

I have no balls (gold or silver anyway) but it looks like a lot of cool new features have been added to make it easier to navigate and manage blogs on here. I really like all the new stuff, I think it's great the progress that has been made in just 2-3 months.

Thanks for the congrats and the compliment... we are really happy and I'm so excited to count down the days to being over there for a more substancial period of time. This "two weeks at a time" bullshit just doesnt cut it. I might have to come back to the states in autumn to work for a bit to save up some money for a house. But mostly I'll be done here in NY come the end of June.

That's *if* I pass physics and graduate in June and don't have to retake it in the summer and graduate late instead in August.... (ugh I fucking hate that class... my professor is such a wank).
