Waking up is probably the most and least enjoyable part of the day. First, you feel that intense dislike as you feel your eyes ache and your body move in those first moments of consciousness. As if you were being bodily dragged out of that warm, soft, unbelievably contented place we can only dimly remember while we’re awake. It’s almost a shock as we slip out of this blissful place where (hopefully) we felt safe and secure. Then that special “stretch time” slips upon us, our bodies pushing and pulling against the sluggishness of leftover sleep. As I lay in bed, dreading the need to crawl out from under my warm, comfortable covers, I gradually move every inch of my body in a long, luxurious stretch-fest and sigh with pleasure. Its always the best part of the day for me, that first few minutes as I try to grasp some fleeting image left over from the dreams I had that night, letting the early morning chill brush over my face and the warmth of the bed sink into my awareness as I come to full wakefulness. Perhaps it’s just me, but I loathe waking up in a rush. It just seems to put the whole day on the wrong track, that frantic jump from bed. I prefer the slow, steady approach to the unknown day before me.

Good morning to all you sleepy people out there, and even to those not so sleepy.
