The Courage To Be Myself

I once read a book called The Courage To Be Yourself by by Sue Patton Thoele. I recommend it highly to everyone.
As I had stated in an earlier post I am a survivor of incest and domestic violence. The incest happened when I was younger. The domestic violence when I was much older.
Six years ago my ex boyfriend of 10 years off and on tried to kill me and my unborn daughter. I was in the hospital from the time I was 8 months pregnant till the time I delivered my daughter. Thank God we both survived and my daughter is happy healthy and normal today. Anyway it was while I was on the road to recovery that I discovered this book. Sure I have read alot of books because I was searching for answers about why I had low self esteem and lacked confidence in myself even after going through a few years of counseling for the incest. This book has a Women's Bill Of Rights in it and I grabbed hold of that information and keep the list handy just to remind myself that I AM WORTHWHILE.
I thought it might be a good idea to share that Bill of Rights here.
1. We have a right to be treated with respect.
2. We have a right to have and express our opinions and feelings
3. We have a right to be listened to and taken seriously.
4. We have a right to set our own priorities.
5. We have a right to say NO without feeling guilty.
6.We have a right to ask for things we want and need.
7.We have a right to be different than others expect us to be.
8.We have a right to make our own choices.
9.We have a right to laugh and have fun.
10.We have a right to love and be loved.
11.We have a right to be paid fairly for what we do.
12.We have a right to be happy.
Now I know that men should have or do have the same rights as women should have. But for a long time I never knew it was my right to have all these things. But now that I do know this I expect to be respected by all, loved and admired by some, and respected loved and cherished by one. If you think you might be him read my profile and send me an email.

Well, that is some drawing!!!

Thanks for posting this. I get a little angry at myself sometimes, and I also get angr with others because I feel that I am not respected in a way that I should be. I really love these and I have copied and pasted them to my notebook for safe keeping, if that's ok with you.

Juicy, I know what horrible things you went through. I went through them to, when I was younger.
