The Thought Police!

I just found that the Thought Police are watching this site!

I posted a question concerning how to be the best father that I can be on my blog. I did everything in my power to keep the post within the standards of deciency. I used no profanity. I made no sugestive comments. I tried to show my state of panic over my kid growing up.

Imagine my suprise to find that my post was denied due to it's subject matter (my daughter). The denial said that the topic was outside the bounds of the site because it dealt with "underage" people.

Please, do not misunderstand me, I fully accept and applaud careful monitoring of the content posted here. The key is CAREFUL monitoring. I am afraid that there may be a program written that looks for certain "key words" and rejects those posts summarily.

This worries me for two reasons. First, those posts that are innocent in nature can be summarily rejected, even though they do not violate the site standards. Second, these programs can be avoided by the simple use of intentionally misspelling certain key words in the post. If you need examples of this stratigy, please look at the junk e-mail you all receive.

I encourage everyone to help police the site. This type of behavior toward children is vile and discusting at the very least. Only remember how fine the line is between freedom and the dreaded "Police State".

George Orwell's book 1984 is not a clasic because it couldn't happen. It is a clasic because it can and does happen all the time. And all in the name of safety. Freedom is not easy. It does not come cheaply. The cost is personal responsiblity for your actions and exceptance that other beliefs (while possibly repugnant to you) can be valid.

Good luck to all.
