Well, hell. . .just my luck

I should've known this was coming. It happens every single time I have a severe asthma attack.

I've got a cold.

I was accidentally exposed to an essential oil last week for which I have a particularly severe allergy. The response was immediate and the after effects long-lasting. Just like always. Hence why I am such a Nazi about staying away from my triggers. It's not just about having the attack, but the 3-4 weeks of recovery afterward.

I tell everyone in my circle of friends, I am very lucky in that I don't have to use my inhaler or nebulizer more than once a year, and always because of someone exposing me to an allergen. But, when it does happen, I go down hard and take ages to bounce back.

Adding insult to injury, I always seem to pick up the first cold virus to happen along.

I knew last night when I went to bed, but hoped against hope it was just an allergic reaction to the new detergent I got on sale last pay day.

Waking up this morning--disgustingly early--to a scratchy throat, drippy sinuses, splitting headache, chills, fever and a distinct sensation of having been punched square in the nose definitely put quits to the allergy theory.

So here I sit. . .with my hoodie on and a blanket wrapped around me wishing it was already all over. Coffee isn't even helping. So. . .time to get some rest. Besides, the antihistamine has kicked in and I'm about as stoned as I can be and still type.

And it's not even time for flu shots yet. . .

So, if I'm a bit lax in the next few days, y'all know why. I'm the one sitting in the recliner, blowing my brains steadily out via my nostrils, watching Deadwood and Star Trek Enterprise to keep me from realizing just how crappy I'm feeling.

Love y'all, my Faithful Readers!

You're such a naughty boy, KPB, teasing me in my weakest hour! You're angling for a spanking there, son!

I love your idea, Flyaway! I have this great microwaveable sobakawa bean bag face mask scented with lavender. It's covered in fleece and feels so good on the sinuses.

Thanks to all of y'all for your lovely outpouring of well-wishes.

It's already in my chest now. . .the absolute worst phase of any sickness for me. My asthma, while under control as long as I avoid triggers and keep my lungs clear, goes completely haywire once a cold goes into my lungs. I go from head cold to bronchitis to pneumonia usually in under 3 days. So this is the time I try my best not to let that happen. Antibiotics, hot showers, sleeping sitting up, etc.

Trying to explain this to people--even smokers--who are healthy is tough. They think my stance on avoiding exposure to things that make me sick means I'm a psycho bitch. Just the contrary. I know what happens to me and I do NOT want to die suffocating. I've come damned close way too many times not to fear it. And the actual process of draining my lungs is so wretched and humiliating, NOBODY would want to go through it. . .least of all me.

Well, I'm about to become incoherent here in a moment. . .lack of oxygen to the brain as my lungs fill up. I hate this part, too. Makes me feel like a complete dingbat.

Thanks again, dear friends, for your outpouring of kindness and healing energies!

Love y'all!

Feel better... I also have asthma... and had a mild attack yesterday. I have some idea of what you are going through and feeling. It is horrible.... and it isn't being a Nazi to try and avoid it. You are fortunate that you know what triggers yours. Take it easy... and get yourself well soon.
