Singing in the rain......

I can't for the life of me figure out what it is when i go out and have a few drinks and i see those karoke machines that causes me to turn into a self proclaimed diva. now, i can by no means carry any kind of tune, but once that liquid courage hits me, im flippin through that song list writing down so many songs my pens justa smokin! lol.....and i cant wait to hear my name called and i prance my lil buzzed greek patootie up on stage and take that mike and just belt them tunes out thinking im the bestest karaoke queen the south can offer, lol.....i know i sound bad singing most songs, cuz lemme tell you, me trying to sing a mariah carey song---so not pretty, lol...but, on the other hand, i have a few songs i sound kinda decent doing, like hit me with your best shot, (oh god dont laugh) and 9to 5, and dare i admit it, harper valley PTA im up there singing and dancing like theres no tomorrow, and of course the morning after im like, oh god, why'd i make such a dork outta myself? but, alas, i end up doing it over and over again....some dorks never learn lol

any of you all like to sing karaoke?
can you do it sober, or you have to be drunk?
what song(s) do you like doing?

I only do it when I've had a few but I make sure that I go for the stuff that's either punk or easy hard rock n'roll. I did "California Uber Alles" at a live band karaoke (huge rush! ) and I usually go for Cheap Trick's "Surrender." No range necessary; just balls-to-the-wall confidence and belting it out. If it requires any range, I'm not your man.

i try to steer clear of any song that requires pitch.....but every once in a while.....well, you know the rest, lol

You did it again didn't you? lol Our waterboy is supposed to be lookin out for you(or at least callin ME so I can enjoy the show) lol Hell! I'll buy the drinks! As long as you have fun dear, what else matters? That's what karaoke is all about. Not gonna see the next "American Idol" up on that stage. At least with you the crowd has something beautiful to look at as they go slowly deaf. lol Love your voice, but not sure about the singing.( although I seem to remember a sizzling version of Madonna's "Cherish") lol Have fun dear.

If I'm drinking beer, then it's "Hotel California."

If I'm drinking Maker's it's one of many Zeppelin songs (and yes, I can hit the high notes)

If I'm mixing everything together, with friends, and there are fine ladies in the house, then it's "Baby Got Back."

for sum reason i always sing country songs, i'm not sure why maybe because there mostly talking not singing. I also have to have a few drinks to do it, the more i have the better i think i sound, have never been told to sit down but i can see in the peoples eyes that i am not that good, but who cares they can leave if they want i'm just having a dam good time.

So sing all you want and have a good time, thats what life is all about.

keep doing what your doing, and keep it real!!!!!!

Greekgirl4u06 replies on 8/14/2006 3:34 pm:

Never. Ever. I won't go in a bar that's advertizing an evening of drunken schreaching to the tune of "Dancing Queen".

oh, if i ever tried karaoke, i think the bar would close down immediately. the neighbors would call the police for sure...
i try singing in the shower, but only when the water is really loud...
i do sing in my car, but always with closed windows for fear of causing traffic accidents.
greek kisses.

I've never sang karaoke. I do, however, sing at work. I often post the lyrics to the songs I sing on my blog.

I have entire King Diamond albums memorized. But those are not available to sing when doing karaoke. I could nail Welcome Home perfectly. And I scared a coworker doing the voices from "THEM". LOL

Once while working on a oil rig crew, I was totally shit canned. It was Burning ring of fire, its all I could sing that they had. I sucked, but I didnt care. It pissed all the locals right off.
I yell all day over machines, I have no singing voice. But if I could it would be old country or Sinatra. Cliche I know but its f---ing karaoke.

I've been told I should try out for American Idol. But "THEM" was meant to be scary. LOL

I'm taking singing lessons with a very patient, accepting (deaf) woman. I just want to be able to not make dogs start howling when I sing along with the radio.

And, no, I haven't taken the risk yet of karaoke. The song I want to sing is "The Son of Preacher Man."

Ok, finally someone who admits they like karaoke. It's your chance to be a star even if only to yourself and only for a few minutes. I don't necesarily have to have a drink....but it does help with the courage factor and the risk involved in embarrasing yourself. One of my favorite places to hang and sing here at the beach closed recently though....Mulligans, a little dive in NMB. Perhaps you've heard of it or even been there...probably not.. Broadway Louis is higer class and probably more your style....I would love to drop you a line, however as a regular member, I am unable to send you a line...and seeing as I am married and anything with anyone has to be totally confidential, it makes it impossible to upgrade since the bill comes to the fucking house!! I would love to hook up even just to see what might happen...

never been to mulligans, and no, dont like broadway....i like causeway actually

Karaoke, a disease brought over from Japan that affects those with false bravado brought on by too much falling down juice, yes ok I mean pissed!!
Why not pay the extra and watch professional singers, its usually much better on the ears.

I used to sing in a band, but my bandmates are no longer in the same town as me (sometimes I think I should rejoin them!), so my only singing/performing outlet is Karaoke..........

But to be honest, my favorite performances are the people who can;'t sing a lick, but they know it and have fun with it! Those are way more fun than the good singers!

If you should die before me, ask if you can bring a friend........

I can do karaoke but have to be drinking and then I usually stick to Johnny cash. He is easy to sing and if you are too drunk you can just kinda talk your way through the lyrics. anyway if I sing at work or anything I usually just speak the words to a song that catches my ear no matter what song it is... it can be pretty amusing sometimes (at least for me).

It's amazing to find out there are others that do actually enjoy it as much as I do..I got kinda addicted to it Well I enoy the Brooks&Dunn songs mostly..She Used To Be Mine; Neon Moon; That Aint No Way To Go; and a few others..Also I like Who's That Man by Toby Keith, and of course a few of George Strait's, Keith Whitley, and I'm working on Billy Currington's Must Be Doin Something Right...It's true what alot of people say though it's all about enjoying yourself singing, especially when you get a good response from the audience..*winks* I'm sure you have a lovely voice though and my preference in singing is always Country as Maybe cause I'm from Texas with a very strong Texas accent..

I too enjoy karaoke after a few beers. I like Elton John songs Rocket Man and Daniel. I used to be in All-State Choir in high school and a touring choir at Syracuse University so I once had a very strong voice that I rarely use today. My high school music teacher thought I would try and become a professional singer/ entertainer. I never did pursue that path! I would be happy to join you in singing a karaoke duet someday in Myrtle Beach.

I can only sing stuff where the singer has a deeper bass, or it sounds all Conway Twitty or Johnny Cash.

What other old songs are you singing?
